Neal to UF

  • I remember last year at this time of the year all the UF fans were swearing up and down they wont lose more than 4 games and UF's record will be 8-4. I think UF will go 6-6 again because they are breaking in another new OC with a brand new QB in Brissett/Driskel and their offense will continue to struggle IMO.

Well opposite of Powell will be Earl Okine, 6'7'' 280 SR DE...Bullard,Telvin Westbrook,Quinteze Williams,Kendrick Johnson will also get looks oppposite of Powell. It all depends what kind of fronts were running too, we dont have the personal to run a full on 3-4 yet. In a 4-3 Larentee McCray will be the DE opposite of Powell with Easley an Floyd inside. Omar Hunter an Leon Orr are our returning DTs. Orr is an athletic freak at 6'5'' 310 can do standing backflips. Also Damien Jacobs should come right in an contribute. RS Fresh DE Telvin Westbrook has prob outgrown the DE position already at 6'6'' 300 so he might move inside as well...At LB Jon Bostic an Jelani Jenkins return too, an all their back-ups..Throw in Fowler who will also add much needed depth at the "buck" positon in the 3-4 an prob put his hand in the dirt in the 4-3...

So basically outside of Powell and his whopping 5 sacks last season UF doesn't really have a lot of pass rushing options. Okine, Bullard, Westbrook, and Quinteze are all bigger run-stopping types of DE's, I guess you could throw in Fowler but I wouldn't want to count on a true freshman DE

+1 for spelling both QBs' names right

The guy opposite Powell had 8 tackles last year. McCray had 1.5 sacks. Expecting good play out of either of them is warchant summer type conjecture. Powell will get checked by a RB or TE at the LOS because there isnt a second pass rusher. As I said earlier, Easley is coming off a torn acl and expecting him to come in a play at the level he is expected to play at in unrealistic. I like Easley a lot but he wont be the easley of this year until the half way mark at least. Floyd is a beast at DT but he isnt going to make any QB run for their life. QBs run for their life because of pass rushing abilities.

FSU has Jenkins, Werner and Carradine.

Jenkins followed up a 13.5 sack season with a "dissapointing" 8 sacks

Werner had 7 sacks last year as a SDE

Carradine had 5.5 sacks as a backup

I just dont see UF making any QB "run for their life" this year. Maybe if Bullard qualifies, Fowler is a hit, and they get 1 or 2 stud DEs this year than maybe, but I just dont see more than 1 pass rusher on that roster, and Powell has only flashed his ability, has has yet to prove he can sustain it.

And FSU fans were equally as optimistic about FSU's upcoming season.

What would FSU's offense had looked like against USCe, Bama, UGA, and LSU's defenses? Especially after the injury bug?

Im not seeing 6-6, due to an easier schedule; with that said, I also dont believe UF's oline will dramatically improve over an offseason.

Olines dont usually transform overnight or over a single offseason. UFs oline has been miserable since the 09 season actually.

Good point, I think FSU would beat USCe and UGA but lose to LSU and Bama before the injury bug, after the injury bug I wouldn't have confidence in saying FSU would beat UGA but it could happen (still think we beat USCe regardless)

and I know you are having a difficult time seeing UF going 6-6 because it is your favorite team after all and it is difficult to think your team will have another disappointing year, it is just simply my opinion that UF will go 6-6 maybe 7-5 next year

  • lol, as I was scrolling down I realized I was going to yell at you 386 about Okine being terrible but it looks like that's being done.

Powell needs to have a Jarvis Jones kind of season for UF and for Shariff to finally come alive.

I think you guys would beat USCe also, and UF shouldve beat UGA so FSU wouldve most likely had success there too.

I was mianly just talking about your oline standing up against the def fronts, post injuries.

I see alot of UF fans scream abour UFs returning players, but I only see 3-4 nfl playees on the roster ar best. Halapio, Floyd, Elam, and who knows with Easley's injury now.

We didnt have a single player picked by the sec coaches last yr on the offensive preseason all conference teams. No other sec coach thought uf had a very talented player, hence our 6-6 record. I think on defense we mightve had a 3rd teamer.

We have pieces on defense, but the oline unit wont be that much better. Ive alwaus had a bad feeling about 300lb men that stay injured more than skill players.

  • Florida has a ton of talent but I am predicting 7-5 for UF. Part of that is that I am predicting 1-1 in the at TAMU and at UTk startoff. I think UF's QB will be pressing and the lack of go to RBs and WRs will stand out too much.

Florida still does not really come together in 2013 either unless you have a QB really come on, breakout players at WR, Humphries be LEGIT, all three stud DL return, etc.

I appreciate your optimism, and I agree about the 2 road gms.

Offensive weapons are overrated though, imo. No disrespect to Trent or Ball, but there are a handful of backs that would thrive behind those olines. If the oline is in good shape the qb shouldnt have to press.

I can see 7-5 to 8-4. But, it could be worse if the oline regresses any further.

  • I'm going 7-5, too. Optimistic about Tim Davis. USC fans speak highly of him.

Im looking forward to Davis also. But, outside of Halapio and Chaz Green, when healthy, the oline sucks.

Patchan has skills, but Ill never count on him to stay healthy, Nixon is the softest guy on the team, the rest really just have 2nd team skills andt are being forced to play like starters.

Hopefully they will actually stay healthy at least. If we get them to at least lineup together and grow from week to week, we have a shot.

I pray Humphries adapts to weight gain better than Nixon. I rather he sit out and get a comfortable playing weight instead of rushing his body as Nixon did. Nixons body never held up.

def. 7-5 is a realistic area to be around
we shouldn't miss a bowl game unless we get hammered by injuries, which can always happen

HOWEVER as sad as this is...
2013 FSU UF game should be EPIC

Don't see us losing six. IMO the oly teams I think the teams we may lose to are lsu, south carolina, maybe georgia, and the florida-fsu game could go either way. Tamu and missouri aren't ready for the second yet imo. I think we lose four at the most

Four at most? The FSU game could go either way? You may only lose 4 games but you might be the underdog in more than 4. It's definitely possible you lose 5 or 6 games even if it's not likely. And as of today FSU is the clear favorite in our matchup.

Well I never said Okine was a beast, I never even said he would make a major impact..I said he might start opposite of Ropo. An I agree with you on Powell needing to have a Jarvis Jones type of year, but that is best case scenario. Shariff was out of position last year, when he moved inside for the OSU game he absolutly dominated. That OSU game is another reason I thinko our front 7 will be good next year..Every one an their brother picked them to beat us in the bowl game, an our guys had 12 tackles for loss an 6 sacks vs them...

Injruies killed us for the auburn game Starting freshman qbs will kills you every time and we still almost won And we had no one who could catch punts

You know, I forgot about the punt return issues. My brother (a Texas grad) called me during the game and says "who does that guy (rainey) owe money to anyway?"

as to the freshmen starting, UT St went up and down the field on them. Weren't the tiggers below 100 in defense?

I think you will have a 10-15 defense. I am not sure if top 10 b/c your offense will put the D in a lot of bad situations which means worse stats.

Floyd's performance against tOSU was 50% because B.Miller was holding the ball for freakin ever. I watched that game and it was a miracle you guys didn't get double digit sacks.

    fsufsu

  • Its really not that hard to have double digit tackles for loss in a game when your playing the option.

    NoleBrave03

  • I think Florida's game at TAMU will be more challenging than UF fans admit. TAMU has been recruiting really well.

TAMU has one of the top 15 or so best home field advantages in America. UF's QB will be very green and lack proven playmakers to "bail him out". And Sumlin's offense will be trying to tire out Florida's DL. Florida better establish a run game.
