NSD WARNING:

  • For those of you that haven't gone through National Signing Day before let me help you with some things.

    1. You will be dissapointed - We won't land everyone on our board & it will feel like we had a dissapointing class because a couple of recruits who we thought might pick FSU ended up going somewhere else. It happens every year. Those that have been around, know not to make a big deal over 1 or 2 recruits going somewhere else & instead focus on the overall class

    2. You will be shocked - We might just land somebody that we didn't expect to land. Again, it happens almost every year.

    3. Don't let the up & down flow of the day get to you. I remember my first signing day & I was excited at the possibilities of landing all the guys left on our board. I felt confident based on what other posters where saying that we would land certain recruits and when they announced, they went elsewhere. Then, we would land a guy that was either never mentioned or landed somebody that most thought FSU only had a slim chance at getting.

Bottom line, it won't be horrible if Goldman picks Auburn. It won't be horrible if Howard picks Miami or Florida. It won't be horrible if JHC picks UGA. Now, if the class ends up NOT filling the needs, then an upset reaction is common. Heck, most will be mad if Fowler flips, even if we get Goldman, JHC, and Howard. Focus on the positive, not the negative...or your day will be long & frustrating.

I hope we can all celebrate by landing all the guys we want to land, but in the 7+ years I have followed FSU recruiting closely it hasn't happened.

    Enjoy your first NSD!

  • You are right about nearly guaranteed disappointment.

I would add this: while trying to focus on the positive, know that it is human nature to attend more closely to negative stimuli. If you paid too much attention to the yummy berries and not enough attention to the hungry lion stalking you, you wouldn't live long enough to leave any ancestors behind. So forgive yourself for getting upset--and forgive other posters for the same.

Yes, try to focus on the positive, but cut yourself, and others, lots of slack.

  • The people who bemoan missing one or two guys while our awesome class stares them in the face are the dregs of internet society to me. Our class will be EPIC this year and there will be 2-3 people, who we could all predict, who will act like we missed.

  • You people sleep the night before signing day? Hell, I couldn't sleep last night

  • BlackOut

  • It should also be stated not to worry too much about being ranked the #1 class across all the recruiting sites. Consistently being a top5 team every year and filling all your position needs is whats important.

    zewhitedevil

  • Agreed Whitedevil. We aren't going to be #1 across the board & probably won't reach #1 in any of the rankings...we are only taking 20-21 guys & low numbers hurt when it comes to rankings.

One thing to look at is the average star rating. We will be on Top or at least top 3 across the board.

  • I actually think you rarely land an unexpected kid. But I completely agree/admit we won't land everyone on our board like many on here are claiming.

And you know damn well people are going to be acting like idiots tomorrow because that's how some have been acting for weeks now.

    tricknole

  • Disagree on #2 if you take out the Trickett 2 star specials. We rarely land a highly rated guy that was way down on the board on the eve of NSD. It used to happen frequently in the 90s but in the last 10 years it is infrequent. The last really big NSD surprise we got was Antone Smith.

    Thanks mom.

Sorry, it was there, I had to do it.

    Call it a compulsion.

In all seriousness, I will add, remember these are 17 year olds. Remember what you were like at 17 and if you had access to social media to post/do things without a governor what you would have done that you would have regretted later in life.

I just might. I have an unopened bottle of rum near by. Combine that with this cold I have and you have a recipe for a long nights sleep.

Plus, I rarely go to bed before 1 or 2 and I am looking at a few hours of microscopic photography of marine organisms tomorrow....I'll need the sleep.
