  • NIU student here, will answer any questions if you got them.
Doernen left the team Saturday, today his OC Rod Carey took the full time job.
NIU's Jordan Lynch is very good, although his stats are misleading because of the SOS.
The Defense is significantly better than the 60 point outburst that Toledo had against us last year. The Offense is their strength.
Jordan Lynch is a grad of Mt. Carmel, the Caravan is one of the best football schools in the Chicago land area playing in the Catholic league.
Iowa was significantly better at the beginning of the year than now, having lost what 5 RBs and 4 starters on their line to injury.

I wouldn't doubt it, but you never know. Too bad I already booked a ticket to spend New Years in Austin with my friend at 6th St. Otherwise I'd head down, should be a cool atmosphere in Miami, plus chilling with my fraternity would have been really fun.

  • Do you think many NIU fans will travel to the game?

Tickets are free for students, so I expect to see a number of people, 1/3 of my house is going, and a number of plans are being set up to get deals on hotels.

  • What type of offense does NIU. What type of D? Who are some players on each side of the ball we should pay attention to. Also what is your prediction for the game?

They have an SBnation site. Not much action on it.

    Preciate it.

Their defensive/offensive linemen are bigger than I expected.

Nobody that I would consider draft worthy outside of Lynch, but there are a few people who could make the roster. Our Offense is very fluid, Lynch is often in shotgun running a spread style offense, but he can go under the center and play pro from the I. The Defense is 4-3.

  • I was happy to see Northern Illinois crash the BCS. Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy the moment. If the Huskies were playing any other team, I'd be cheering for them.

I do have a question: what do you think is a reasonable spread for this game, and what kind of a chance do you figure NIU has? There is no wrong answer here. I'm just curious because I went over to a Huskies board (on a different network) a couple nights ago, and I was surprised to see that most of the posters there were rather confidently predicting victory. I don't know if it was faith in the Huskies, a lack of respect for this FSU team, or some combination of both.

I'm brutally honest when it comes to this game. I think a -15 is a good spread because it's essentially a home game for you. Also, most NIU fans today are bandwagon fans who know very little about NIU and don't understand that while the 12-1 record is nice, with only one win against a ranked opponent, and just one win against a big 6 school, NIU is outmatched. A lot of my fellow students talk of Boise and forget that Boise won double digit games for 6 years before finally crashing the BCS. Plus before the last 2 years NIU had won just one 1 MAC title. But, I will say this. If and this is a big IF, FSU's front 7 plays like it did against GT, this game will be very close. Lynch isn't a true qb by any means, but his ability to make plays out of nothing reminds me of Denard.
Also another note is that the MAC is looking to subsidize NIU so that they don't lose any money.

  • Student attendance at NIU games has been pisspoor for the last few years, even though tickets are free for students, we still can't get more than 2000-3000 students to go to the games.

I thought FSU's front 7 played decent against Ga Tech - the tough thing about playing that team is how much cut blocks go on and the option responsibilities; I imagine NIU does a lot of zone read? I think FSU will play that better.

If I were NIU, I'd be worried about the trenches - especially FSU's OL against NIU's DL...

The only way NIU keeps this close is a shootout, Toledo played well against NIU's DL, and the size difference will become quite apparent early.

If that is the case... I don't see that happening... Only one team has really scored really "well" on FSU (and b/c the defense was gassed) and that was UF and I guess Clemson also (a few trick plays led to TDs)... Other than that, NIU might want to be prepared for many 3 and outs...

Not sure I understand this comment. FSU's front 7 kept Ga Tch almost 150 yards under its per game rushing average with only 1 week to prepare after a tough rivalry game the week prior.

    Say what?

Don't know if he realizes that we played a triple option team where the linemen were diving at our knees for 60 minutes. We held an extremely good offense under 20, the same offense who recently dropped 69 on UNC. Our 3rd string DL would still destroy them.
