Monday 9:00 AM PSU Penalty's Announced

  • Enzo said...

The "unprecedented" quote could simply refer the fact that the NCAA president is unilaterally penalizing a school for the first time in history without an NCAA investigation, without the involvement of the infractions committee, and without a clear understanding of even which specific NCAA bylaws have been violated. This is purely a PR-related punishment, coming a mere 10 days after the Freeh report, and I'm nervous about the precedent it sets for the future. If the NCAA wants to do a full investigation and follow their normal procedures, then I'm all for it. But I'm very uncomfortable with the way this is being carried out.

    This. This so hard.

Steve school officials won't cover it up though knowing how severe the punishment is. That's the point of the penalties, not for what Sandusky did but for what JoePa and PSU officials did and didn't do in order to protect the football program.

    Good point. Hope you're right.

  • 30 to 60 million, that's just lame! If it's an infraction take some ships and ban them from bowls. But leave the money fines for the courts.

I actually think the NCAA should fine schools more. Most of their penalties are pathetic. Only thing that might make them think twice is taking away revenue.

I think that's on addition to bans and ship losses.

  • It will be a death penalty without being THE official death penalty.

Yeah, lets take scholarships away from kids who may have no other way to college instead of fining the institution that covered up child abuse

    Extremely uncomfortable. Great post.

Why? The money is purportedly being used to set up entities that will help children that go through this paradigm. Good use of the money, instead of fuel for the corporate jet and country club memberships.

If the precept you cite in your first sentence is true, then I would tend to agree. However, I don't believe this is the case, and there is much more behind the scenes NCAA activity than is being revealed.

Simple, schools like PSU can just write a check for the 30 million and be done with it, money isn't an issue for them. But everything in Happy Valley is built around their winning football team, EVERYTHING!! Take away ships, bowl ban and allow current players to transfer without penalty is 100 times worse for PSU then simply writing a check with a few ships being taken away.

You make some very good points.. There are issues here other than penalties for PS. Do we want the ncaa in the form of one person to exercise this kind of power?

  • Can we say "holy shit!" on this site? Because holy shit! I doubt this is how Bowden wanted to get the record, but he's got it.

    Enzo

  • Well we both win, the NCAA takes the 60 million but drops a bus on the program. 15 ships a year for 4 years, 4 year bowl ban, all wins since 98' vacated and all players can now transfer without penalty.

PSU will now be a door mat for 20 years..

  • Their not taking scholarships from kids. Those kids will find other schools to play football on scholarship.
They are punishing PSU for putting their football program ahead of child rape.
Don't understand why people don't get this?????
