The University of Maryland's Board of Regents on Monday voted unanimously to accept an invitation to join the Big Ten Conference and leave the Atlantic Coast Conference, a source told ESPN on Monday.

    Damn straight. Big12 OR BUST.

We need to start organizing a movement -- as judging by their comments over the past 6-months, the President / AD have no idea how many boosters/fans are fully behind the idea of getting the hell out of the ACC.

This is a financial business decision and... we can't afford to continue to fall behind...

  • This is huge news for every major conference. The pieces have started to fall...FSU better have nice plan already in place.

  • If we stay we are freaking screwed. Black and white now. The ACC is disintegrating.

It's true. The ACC is now the Big East, essentially. Although, only we and Maryland have the best argument against the $50M buyout.

Will be interesting to see how this happens and if we will be able to do the same thing. Maryland does have Under Armour on their side who I bet will toss them a lot of money to exit out.

no doubt, we talked about it for 6 months and then did nothing. This happened over the weekend and they are gone on Monday.

    1. Maryland voted against it.

    2. Maryland's BOT has some major attorney power on it. They believe they can circumvent it or at least reduce it.

    3. Under Armour. Maryland does have the money if they ultimately have to do it. Big Ten could also step in to front some money for a buyout.

Chump change compared to the longterm benefits of Big Ten membership over ACC.

  • I do believe we did our selves justice by voting against the buyout. Everyone else that voted for it, is screwed imo

  • I think I've seen on here that it was just Maryland and FSU to vote against $50M but just was wondering if Clemson did or not?

  • Yeah apparently the fee is not suppose to be punitive and hard to argue that $50 million is not punitive. With this, you know FSU is waiting for the legal action to go through and will just borrow the argument that Marland uses. Good that FSU can get that info without paying. Interesting to see if the SEC tried to one up the big 10 again.

  • Its a money/arms race at this point... if SEC/Big10/Big12/Pac12 has the $ put 10x more staff out on the road... then their staff can devote a lot more time with each individual recruit... and their chances of recruiting top players increases dramatically.

How long before they are able to pay their asst coaches the same amounts ACC teams are paying their head coaches? Talent will flow to the money...

ACC is financially limiting our program.... which will snowball as it continues to spiral out.

We need some heavy hitting boosters to step up (ie: devoe moore, sara blakley) like this under armour guy did...

Reports were that FSU and Maryland were the only ones to say nay.

"Our best wishes are extended to all of the people associated with the University of Maryland. Since our inception, they have been an outstanding member of our conference and we are sorry to see them exit. For the past 60 years the Atlantic Coast Conference has exhibited leadership in academics and athletics. This is our foundation and we look forward to building on it as we move forward.”

You can't send "staff" out recruiting, only coaches, and there is a finite number of coaching slots.

  • if I am the other Big 10 schools I'm not excited about either addition.
I' m just curious whether the SEC or Big 12 step up their expansion efforts now!
    Stay tuned!
Does this trigger another avalanche, or is it the last rock falling?
