Looking to spring: Defensive backs

Spring football is rapidly approaching and Noles247 will be taking a look at each position segment and how they break down over the next few weeks. Up next, defensive backs.

  • FSU should have a really really good Secondary this year. Hunter is my breakout player on the back end. I think Karlos comes on some but really "breaks out" as a Jr.

  • Im still not sold on our secondary. I think Rhodes has the size and athletic ability to be amazing but lacks that clutch big play ability, and i think G5 has that big play ability but lacks the size.

Can we combine the 2 into the ultimate CB please?

The only guy i am 100% sold on in the secondary is LaMarcus Joyner. That kid has both consistency and a nose for big plays.

Im not saying they won't be a great group...im just saying I'm not 100% sold yet. Just remember that this time last year people were saying we'd have the best secondary in the nation and we got torched by several teams (namely Clemson).

I don't remember anyone saying that. Everyone knew Joyner was raw and Parks was average as hell so I can't imagine anyone saying that.

  • Nick Waisome doesn't even get mentioned? Is he that buried on the depth chart?

    Oh, it was being said.

Many expected Rhodes to be a 1st rounder, Harris and Reid to be a 3-4 rounders, ext.

Many argued that our DBs were better than our DL

Folks were saying our DBs were best in America huh? Shame on them.

  • Just for clarification who will lining up where in the secondary?
    Tyler Hunter at Safey?
    Lamarcus Brutus at Safety?
    Keelin Smith at Corner?

I could see Hunter following the Terrance Brooks route as far as development goes.

  • Just to concur with the post above, there were many on here last year saying our DBs were stacked and that Rhodes most likely would be gone after last season.

I think they will be good though, but definitely need to show improvement. Lamarcus Joyner is gonna have a big, big year I think.

  • So who do you think takes Mike Harris' snaps?

Phil Steele and alot of people were saying that.

But if you didn't say it then it can't be true.

    Hunter is playing CB

He is can play the Mike Harris role from day one.

Reid and Rhodes are elite on the outside.

Rhodes took half a season to get going but was playing lights out against a first round draft pick.

Reid gave up two deep balls all year, and people tend to over criticize him but he is still an elite college CB.
