Has thrown 100 mph.

if they keep him something is going on. first the 9th pick a few years ago and now this? They historically aren't a great program either.

Think he ends up at UF, unfortunately for us. He fell pretty far for a talent like that, obviously scared some teams off. Then again, Houston probably wouldn't have taken him if they felt they couldn't sign him.
Then again, they are the Houston Astros...

Houston has 8.5 million to sign their first pick and him. You would think a team would so whatever they can to sign their comp. pick.

How does the comp round work in MLB? Does it go round 1, with every team picking, then to a round for teams who didn't sign a first rounder the year before?

I believe it has to do with free agency. A team gets a pick in either round A or B based on the quality player that signed with another team. Last night The MLB Network was mentioning who ever pick compensated for.

I loved fastball pitchers in my day. I always loved how people said : " but he is throwing 100mph" , then I would just say: "well, do you know much about Newton's Laws of motion? 100mph just means I can hit it further."

Assuming you were able to catch up to it ;)
Nomar and Payton said they would rather face a guy hitting near 100 than an upper 80s/lower 90s pitcher with movement.

I agree with Nomar and Payton. I would rather face a hard thrower than a Greg Maddux (in his prime).

The rumor floating around is he is asking 4+Mil to sign and that was the main reason he fell so far. He was projected somewhere between 10-15 before the draft started.

Only the top-4 picks are slotted 4 million+. Picks 10-15 are slotted $2.2-2.7 million. He is slotted for $1,258,700, but the Astros have $8.5 million to sign him and Correa. So if they can sign Correa for below slot (4.5 million instead of 7.2 million at slot) they can sign McCullers for $4 million. Either that or they can take the fine and or talk him down from $4 million.

Peter Gammon said it last nite during the draft so I guess that was the rumor before, which made him drop so far.

As a former pitching coach, for the long run, I'd take a hard-thrower 11 times out of 10. You can teach a hard-thrower to pitch, but can't teach a pitcher how to throw significantly harder. While a guy like Maddux is lethal, he's the exception rather than the rule, and has to be so perfect to succeed.

I,m interested to see hoe much money the astros saved by drafting seniors who agreed to sign under slot and if its enough to give Lance $4 million. I doubt they sign correa below slot ($7.2 million).

Astros drafted correa because he would sign for under slot. If they want McCullers bad enough they will sign him.
