Only the top-4 picks are slotted 4 million+. Picks 10-15 are slotted $2.2-2.7 million. He is slotted for $1,258,700, but the Astros have $8.5 million to sign him and Correa. So if they can sign Correa for below slot (4.5 million instead of 7.2 million at slot) they can sign McCullers for $4 million. Either that or they can take the fine and or talk him down from $4 million.

As a former pitching coach, for the long run, I'd take a hard-thrower 11 times out of 10. You can teach a hard-thrower to pitch, but can't teach a pitcher how to throw significantly harder. While a guy like Maddux is lethal, he's the exception rather than the rule, and has to be so perfect to succeed.
