  • Because he was a so called Marginal JuCo corner, he was a freshman star at Memphis

  • Rumors were Karlos was having trouble learning the defensive playbook hence the reason he didn't see much action at safety...so he is all of sudden going to pick up the offensive playbook?? Hell it took an injury to get Freeman more carries and he was a EE...I say keep Los at safety as I think he has potential to be another Sean Taylor...twocents

  • Count me in the group that wants Karlos to stay at safety. I think that is the place where his talent could best benefit himself and the team. Obviously, i'm no expert so if the coaches feel differently, they will make the move.

I think having Karlos and Joyner at the safeties, and letting Brooks play the nickel in some coverages or be a backup safety (or Karlos if he doesn't have the playbook down) would be ideal for having a dominant secondary.

Considering the impact Joyner had on the defense in his first year starting, I think Karlos could do the same when he learns the system. Put the two of them together, and it could be really special to watch imho.

I think the move has more to do with him not learning the playbook.

I'd rather him stay at Safety if he could learn it. Him and Joyner cover every inch of the field and punish the opposing offense.

Maybe Brooks is just better, he looked like it this year IMO

So why waste Los talent put him on O

Los was a freshmen while Brooks is a Soph...Rumor is Los is having trouble learning the playbook, Brooks knows the playbook.

  • Doesn't matter how good you are if you don't know the plays - this is why I laugh every year when posters say recruit A will be a starter day 1 etc

Is tough and Brooks has the lead and if he plays well you wind up with a great athlete on the bench so why not let him try O

He won't start anywhere on offense, so we would be wasting his talent on offense as well. Freeman and Pender will probably see the most time at RB, with Wilder playing on short down and goal line situations. And he definitely won't see PT at WR. At least at safety he has the chance to start or if anything on nickel and dime situations when Brooks is moved to nickel back, Los will be the other safety alongside Joyner. He is no lower than 2nd string at safety, at RB he could be behind 3 guys.

Just because he didn't play much this year doesn't mean he won't have an impact at safety at FSU. He wasn't here for spring, he only had the summer to pick up the playbook..........safety is not like WR, where you can just jump in if you know how to run routes. A safety has to read the offense and make adjustments accordingly. With a semester of spring ball under his belt, Los will be fine at safety and will make the significant strides needed to see PT this year.

  • Fair enough we do rotate DB a ton so he probably he gets more PT there

I just think it funny every one assumes Los is the starter next year opposite Joyner but seems pretty obvious to me that if today were the season opener it is obviously Brooks

100% agree with you, Brooks is the better safety right now and if the season started today I would start him with Joyner and I firmly believe that we could win a NC with those two starting. But all I'm saying is let's give Los a few snaps on offense, but keep him on defense. I think with the spring practices he will at least be in the mix to start. Plus Joyner had injured himself a few times this year and had to go out of the game for a while, so it would be nice to have Los fill in for him.

I just don't trust Moody, and I don't feel like Hunter, Brutus, Smith, or PJ Williams will be ready to contribute just yet. I feel like our nickel package will be so much better with Brooks dropping into Mike Harris's position at NB, and Los at safety with Joyner. I don't want Los to start if he's not ready or if he's not better than Brooks, let the better player play. But I do feel we need that enforcer at safety, just for the intimidation factor. And he can catch the ball (INT's), he runs a 4.4 (coverage skills), and he is a great tackler. And remember who Stoops developed at UM.............Sean Taylor and Ed Reed. Los is in the same mold as those players and I feel Stoops will develop him into a stud in the spring.

  • Brooks was Joyner's backup but he might start opposite Joyner next season...My question is why didn't he replace Parks at some point during the season??

I don't trust Moody either, we don't know what we have in Brutus, Hunter, and PJ Williams...PJ is a freshmen so that's never good even though some freshmen can come in and see the field (i.e. Joyner freshmen year)...I think Brooks would start simply because he knows the playbook more than Williams. If all things were equal and Williams knew the playbook he would probably start because of the things you mentioned...

Safety is some what of an unknown outside of Joyner, Brooks, and Williams so we might not want to switch Los positions...

  • I haven't seen much of waisome yet but having lost mike Harris a nickel situation with Reid brooks and rhodes at cb with Los and Joyner at safety sounds pretty good to me. I don't know where the playbook rumors are coming from but if he can't learn a playbook moving him to offense isn't going to change that.

  • I don't think it's "learning the playbook", I've just heard Karlos doesn't have the natural instincts of the Safety position.

Let's get the ball in his hands. I see WR more than RB, but he is definitely Darren McFadden like in terms of his build and running style.

    SavannaBandana

  • If he didn't learn the playbook last season, I would have him focused like a laser beam on it in the Spring, and not risk further confusing him by having him take snaps at RB. Plus you know how meticulous Jimbo is about knowing your blocking assignments and running exactly the right pattern as a WR. If he's struggling to learn his natural position I would think he would struggle even more on the opposite side of the ball, where everything is far more precise.

  • Is there going to be enough touches to go around with Los, Freeman, Wilder and Pender all at the RB position?

  • I like him on returns, and if he was brought in here and there to be used as a change of pace for some wildcat or option/reverse stuff, that's a good idea too, but I think if you're going to make Los a jack-of-all-trades, he could still play corner against a team's 1 or 2 receiver, he certainly has the knock-out ability like a LB, and his natural position is safety.

A guy with his size, speed, raw skill, and mean streak, could be used at any number of places on the field, and make an impact. My only gripe here is, why wasn't he redshirted? As soon as it was clear that he needed major time in the playbook, why wasn't he given a shirt? Parks and Brooks played the position all year, and we wasted a year of his eligibility for a big special teams hit against C.Southern, and a punt return against Miami that gets called back

I just hope he figures it out. James Wilder tweeted yesterday about doing major work this winter/spring, because he was never going to be happy seeing that much sideline again. You put a guy from the defense, in front of him in the rotation THIS year, and you have another depth issue....a transfer.

Because Parks was more experienced, and Brooks got lots of reps as the dime corner this season.

Someone asked Jimbo about the defense (specifically hinting at Parks) and his statement was "its not always the best 11 guys", "its the 11 guys who play together the best"

The Safety is the last line of defense, and in Stoops system they have alot of responsibility. You can't just put an elite athlete at Safety and expect them to be an All-American.

Parks and Joyner could tell everyone on the field where they needed to line up. If you watch the ND game, Joyner was lining people up even after he moved over to CB.

Brooks should be ready now that he has more experience, but if Moody is healthy at all this year, he would probably be the co-starter opposite Joyner.

People complain about Moody, but when he is on the field it is usually in run support or playing the underneath coverage in the Cover-3. Its not like Stoops is asking Moody to man up against the opposing teams fastest player and cover them 50 yards down field.
