I'm so excited to watch Pender and Green this year that I refuse to worry about recruiting that position. I feel like things could pick up if our RBs just play up to their potential. I really think Pender is going to blow up and coaches won't be able to keep him off the field. Recruits will see what is possible in our offense.
I don't see it as a huge need anyways. We're are scheduled to return 4 RBs and our FB. I think we're fine with 1 RB and 1 FB.
I tend to agree with you. Aside from that I think we are in very good position to land Horton and Harrell. That will allow us to go all in for someone like Fournette.
Next year with Graham I can see a good class. For our spring game we have more 2015 RB prospects then 2014 RBs. Scarlett and Patrick will be elite high 4*s+ also if they keep progressing.
RB recruiting should literally never be worried about
one of the lowest valued positions in football
I can see Green redshirting if all 3 backs are healthy
As long as we sign three, I don't care. We do need the numbers. What we don't need is "star" talk. Of course Yearby would be nice or Sony. But good backs are a dime a dozen and if we find kids who fit what the coaches want, that's all that matters.
Running back is a devalued position. No reason to sweat any of these kids when we have exceptional youngsters already here and plenty to chose from.
Unless its an ultra-talented guy like CJ Spiller or Adrian Peterson...who cares?
Your RBs will produce as much as your OL allows them too. Bring in a bunch of good OL that can push some guys around and a mid-grade 3* will look like a high 4*
Pain is temporary. It may last a minute, or it may last a year. But eventually, it will subside. If i quit, however it will last forever.
Our FB will be gone once this class gets on campus, and you'll have 2 guys as seniors with only 4 total on scholarship. WIth those numbers I think you need 1 FB and another RB in the 2014 class.
While we're at it, here's a question for the board: would you prefer that we land an elite RB this cycle, or an elite WR? I'll go with WR, though an elite RB seems like it would make the passing game better so there's also that. Still, I'll stick with WR.
While I agree with your logic, I believe Jimbo will continue to do things as he always does with regards to RBs....running back by committee. IMO Jimbo will use Pender much like he did Thompson. He has 3 very good backs but if Pender literally keeps the other 2 off the field, I know we will all be pleased with the results because I don't believe there are many who could.
I think its going to very difficult to keep a 3rd yr player in Wilder off the field. At least that's how competitive I think he is.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm not as excited about the WRs from last cycle and the ones committed now, as I was for the ones previous to 2012. Pender and Green are freshmen and I see more potential in them than the WRs from this and last cycle, so I'm kinda leaning towards a big time WR.
Chris was the primary RB till he went down with ACL injury. IMO Jimbo would like to have a primary RB and use the others for a change of pace, but there wasn't or isn't a big enough gap between Wilder and Freeman so thats why you see them split alot of carries.
An elite running back is a high priority in college, the difference between one and capable system back is huge, coaches wouldn't put so much effort into recruiting the top backs if they could just get average-above avg backs to fill the role, if we could sign an elite back every year which isn't common for school's not named UGA,LSU,Bama or USC that would be great
Chris Thompson was an elite back since his sophomore year behind an okay OLine, he was average behind poor Oline his short junior year, in part short because of the line. What he was doing last season would show what an elite back can do for a team, when his season ended we took a big step back as a complete offense, showing why having a elite back is essential at least one every 2 or 3 years which what we usually get a FSU. Ryan Green should hold it down but we need more for depth after 2014 season.
If we can go in for an Elite Back this year i hope we can get a kid like Joe Mixon to visit, he probably is the best running back in 2014 class.
