Jimbo putting FSU/ACC on notice?

  • 55Nole said...

I have been told Jimbo doesn't want FSU to move to another conference because he intends to build his rep at FSU while in the ACC and then jump to the SEC for a huge pay increase.

Hope that isn't correct, but I trust the source.

Yea, because he won't be making close to $3M this year as a 3rd-year head coach...

Third best program my moon. We have the best program in the ACC but have not had the best teams the last handful of years. OK State a better program than Texas/OU the last few years? Michigan State/Wisconsin better than Michigan? Stanford/Oregon better than USC? Hell no.

    Exactly.

And regardless of FSU's position, nothing should prevent it from trying to make sure it is best positioned financially.

How staying in the 5th worst paying conference (by a LONG shot) and falling behind farther does not seem the way to best position itself.

I just don't get the logic of our fan base there.

But FSU's profit was zero. Correct?

I don't think FSU Boosters is included in our revenue. Boosters makes up whatever difference there is in the budget to get it to $0. So it would stand to reason Booster money is counted separately.

A problem compared to some of those other schools is that ACC schools do NOT travel. They don't buy tickets. There are less premiere programs in the ACC so our fans are less inclined to buy season tickets. All of this is revenue lost. I DON'T think attendance will be an issue if we're going to BCS games and competing for the ACC regularly. It wasn't an issue in the early/mid 00's.

Also, as someone else said, we don't have the majority of our scholarships endowed. So every year millions in Booster money is NEVER invested in facilities or coaching and can't be invested to earn even more money. It goes straight into scholarships and is lost forever. There is nothing permanent to show for it. We NEED to endow our scholarships if we want to see real profit.

    That's my understanding.

  • Though it is true that the ACC schools lack of travel has not helped attendance. Actual ticket sales make up a small percentage of the final numbers as compared to the TV contracts.

It was pointed out that the attendance of the top schools coincided with the revenues REPORTED (keep in mind many schools report differently).... However, that is as much a part of the strength of the overall fan base whom are large, contribute greatly to boosters organizations, buy merchandise and help increase TV revenues (meaning better contracts) via viewership.

The Peach Bowl would be the GOAL? loco

In looking back 10 yrs now in the ACC, FSU has been to exactly 2 BCS bowls, losing both.

Please explain to me why moving to the SEC would improve that number?

Therefore the Peach Bowl would in the end, be the goal, though sarcastic, I do not see FSU football suddenly winnign the SEC, where there are at least two programs ahead possibly three. The sec would possibly improve the bottom line, but it will not change recruiting (we already get top 5 classes) and you cannot look into the future and see where these television contracts end up. I am telling you all at some point ESPN's monopoly will be broken.

    Aren't national title the goal?

How often does the 5th poorest conference (somewhat new change) have a member win a national title in football?

The issue isn't SEC or not SEC, the issue is, the money in conferences is changing and drastically. What are the implications for FSU? What should FSU do? Will HUGE differences in revenue with the ACC and 4 other BCS conferences have a negative impact on ACC 'football schools'?

How many have LSU, Bama, UGA, UF, Auburn and Arky been to?

More money. Easier to recruit players that want to play in the SEC. In the 90s how many BCS bowls did we make? A handful of years with a coach well beyond his prime means we can't win? Give me a break.

And REGARDLESS, the Peach Bowl would never be a goal. That's a ridiculous statement to make. It's a consolation.

  • How much more money will it take for FSU to beat Clemson and Wake Forest this season?

  • I know I'm alone here, but for me the goal is to have fun.

When we win there's nothing better in the world. When we lose, I don't let it destroy me. Do I like losing? Of course not. But it doesn't affect my life negatively as the overall experience affects it positively, winning is a bonus. I have fun no matter what.

I love to travel and even better combining FSU and travel. If I had options to visit SEC venues or ACC venues, with the SEC venues being closer, costing less, hence more travel, better more excciting venues, I'd pick the SEC.

Winning a national title is great. When we are at our best we can compete with anyone. I don't understand staying in the ACC just because it's "easier". None of the best things in life are easy. If FLorida can handle it, we damn sure can.

But we don't have that option at the moment. So the point is moot.
