Jalen Tabor Update

  • Sounds promising

Florida & Bama to get official visits from 4-star CB Jalen Tabor

Washington (D.C.) Friendship Academy four-star cornerback Jalen Tabor said he knows of two official visits he will take this coming fall -- Florida Alabama.

  • He was wearing UF stuff at the all-star thing that Tom went to today. But he admitted that he and Payne *was wearing FSU stuff) planned it that way.

This sounds like a recruitment in which we will have to recruit mom more than the recruit.

    fsukum

  • Pulling Payne and Tabor would be absolutely stellar. I can see it happening too.

  • sorry but the update doesnt sound promising to me at all........sounds like a gator and tide battle to the finish to me

I think having two of his favorite recruiters at FSU is promising. We have 11 months to work on his mom.

  • Sounds like we have to win mom over.

  • I believe this is the type of recruit we can get if we are back in the National Spotlight as an elite program year in and uear out. Were so close. We have the coaches, simply we have to produce on the field and be in the Top 5 and we start a new "Glory Days" of competing for championships and choosing the Best recruits that we want!

  • I hope we are truly on the precipice of bring "back," but I actually think we are farther than we think. We imagine it is close because we have been to the mountaintop, but I actually think we have "arrived" at a pretty good place, in a second-tier group of teams typically ranked between 6 and 15, and including strong, but not quite overwhelming, programs like South Carolina, Clemson, Oklahoma, Georgia, VT, UF, Notre Dame, Tamu.

Any one of these programs could rise up and join the elite of Alabama, LSU, Oregon--with Alabama obviously in a class by themselves. But I don't know that FSU is any more poised to do so than the others.

Clemson did beat LSU and we did beat Clemson. Just saying.

  • I didn't read that as promising. We are fighting just to get a visit. He obviously likes us, but we are certainly behind Bamako and Florida.

We've got more talent than anyone not named USC or Bama.

It's silly to put Oregon in the top tier and leave UF out. Oregon doesn't recruit as well as UF and hasn't won it all. Florida has won twice in the last 7 years. I hate Florida just as much as anyone else, but lets be real.

  • We will be a serious player for Tabor IMO. We need to get him on campus this summer and all bets are off. He loves Sal and I think we get Payne in this class so we will have him in Tabor's eye all the way to NSD

    FSUNole1

  • Yes, it is possible to point out flaws in my analysis. The second tier can beat the first tier on occasion--Clemson beat LSU, Tamu beat Bama. But nobody is claiming Clemson's program is on par with LSU's year to year. And USCw might be in the top tier, despite a down year.

I'm just saying that people talking about taking that next step--I'm not convinced we are in a better position to do that than are 10 other teams.

Are we the third most talented team really? That's possible, but I surely think UF could make a similar claim. How about LSU or Georgia or Texas? Or Oklahoma? Those teams kill it on the recruiting trail too. USCe and Clemson aren't far behind and USCe has the best defensive player possibly in glcollege football history.

FSU is talented, but I don't think we can be sure that we are categorically different than many of those other teams. And I still think we lack a game changer on offense, whereas several of those other teams have one, and Alabama runs 5 deep with game changers at the RB position alone, plus they have the nation's best receiver.

I know we have Rashad Greene. He is a terrific receiver, but if there is a true cape-wearing guy on our offense, his name has to be Jameis Winston, and we just don't know if he is truly that guy yet.

  • Well let's put it this way, our average recruiting class ranking in Fisher's 4 years is 4.5. If we play to that talent, we're a top-5 team.

Were getting great athletes and some really are vital to our team and help us tremedously. But some either don't pan out or our coaches don't develop them. Recruits are great but if coaches don't do their job, it's pointless. We need 11 W's every year. It's what our coaches and recruits are capable of and we should get no excuses.

Who isn't panning out? Our coaches have done a superb job of developing players in their first 3 years. The 11 combine participants displays that. We just had 12 wins.

WTF? TAMU had one good season.

UGA/UF/OU are all ahead of us at this point IMO. Oregon is not in the elite class without Chip Kelly...and even with him I still didn't even consider them that elite. There's Alabama and then everyone else right now. LSU/UF/UGA/OU/tOSU/Oregon are the next category. Then we're probably in the next group with teams like Stanford, Clemson, VT, USCe, Wisconsin, and ND. That being said, I think VT and USCe aren't going to be up there for long and teams like USC/Michigan/Texas/Nebraska will replace them.

  • You say WTF but then essentially agree with my overall point, quibbling only with which teams belong in which tier, for example putting UF higher than I do and Oregon/Tamu lower, but I actually think we are 80% in agreement.

I was only saying WTF to TAMU. Then I basically said how I view it and it's not that far off from yours.

There, I edited so maybe it's more clear.

  • Keys to this kid

    1) Get his mom on your side
    2) Get him on campus and let Sunseri and Odell speak to him
    3) Get his mom on your side!!!

  • Ok I'll agree on Tamu.

I am very excited about who we have had, and OVERALL our coaches have done a great job developing people. And yes we had 12 wins this past year. We need it Consistently! That was my point. We need the 11 wins or more to be in the National Spotlight every year. Guys who didn't pan out Jeff Luc big one, Darious C (UF). and over obvious O-Line gaps Jacob F, Daniel G, Dan Foose, John Prior, Aubrey Phillips, Jordan Prestwood. All guys who enrolled and qualified and didn't get along with coach and left or stayed and have never seen the field. But let me say again it's great getting recruits but we got to have coaching and the kids have to produce CONSISTENTLY on the field for us to stay at 11 wins every season. We did it this past season but we need to do it every season to be an Elite Team!

Any fan that wants their team to win 11-12 games every year is going to be disappointed. Any fan that expects every player to pan out is going to be disappointed.
