Interesting record broken last night

  • For all of the supposed offensive struggles this year, Florida State broke the school record this year for total yardage in a single season.

    Thoughts?

  • I think it's misconstrued because of the 2 games take

  • The announcer got it right last night. EJ was inconsistent all year, at times great, at other times bad. Sometimes on the same drive you got it all from EJ, a great play, followed by a head scratcher. I really think that the offensive line improved from start to finish of the season, the young running backs stepped up once CT went down and the TEs kept playing better as the season went on.

The real issue this season was IMO the turnover situation. Not getting many from the defense and the fumbles and interceptions during the last half of the season. Reverse that situation and we go undefeated despite EJs limitations.

The other issue was the special teams [with the exception of Hopkins]. Other than the two punt returns for TDs, we never seemed to really get it together.

  • you lost me at supposed. however, in all fairness, our production had more to do with the weakest schedule in memory as opposed to any greatness of this offense. It was adequate most of the time because we had a great defense. USF, VT,GT etc.

This is a skewed stat for two reasons:

    1) They played 14 games. 2 more than most of our dyansty teams.
    2) Bowl games count towards the stats now. I believe they made that change in the late 90s(I think it helped Ron Dayne out if I'm not mistaken). Most of our dynasty teams didn't have that game included in their #s.

  • Nolemike,

your post means you must think it means this was FSu's greatest offense. I guess that makes you delusional. I would rather be a bitcher than be delusional. And if you do not think this was FSU's greatest offense, what is the point of your post other than making yourself look foolish.

so nole mike, was this FSU's greatest offense or not?

    Good points.

  • Had this team been better on 3rd down and in the redzone, I would be more excited for them. Too much inconsistency.

  • BTW, FSU is tied for 2nd nationally in yards per play with 7 (Clemson at 6.3)!!!! They are 3rd nationally in yards per rush (5.6) and 9th in yards per completion (8.7). Consistency, especially on 3rd down, was our issue.

  • We know this offense isnt as good as 99 or whatever dynasty year you want to pick. The point us still that the gripes about are O are way overstated.

Specifically, short-yardage situations. 3rd and 2 was no more makeable than 3rd and 8.

True. But even on 3rd and 5, we run deep flys and such.

  • I think all of us really respect EJ, he just wasn't quite the guy we thought he'd be on the field. Probably only a few of us know what he has had to deal with off the field, so who knows in a young kid how hard this was to balance w/ being a big time collage QB. I'm proud of this team and what we did given 4 years ago we were struggling to make a bowl.

I'll take it and I don't care who it came against. Yes. We DID play 14 games. Why? We won our Conf. Division, the ACCCG and got to play in a BCS Bowl where we accumulated 534 yards of total offense. That is an earned record, and last time I looked, we do not get to choose who we play against for the most part.

I know Hopkins broke the total career FG Goal record. Did he also break the cumulative career scoring record for all players as well?

Agreed. 3rd down playcalling was strange at times (to say the least)

  • The whining I think stems fromthe ability of the offense to reel off 4 straight grea tplays followed by 3 drive killers, thus all thta fire power not equating to points on the scoreboard. I get it, but still, a lot of that is on Jimbo's play calling, and not the players. The runs trhat were called last night were head scratchers. The one reverse called was comical because we never ran up the middle so MIU was covering the edges. Why run into them? Most caoches will poind the ball and then go for the jugular. At times it seems Jimbo goes for the jugular to opem up the dives. I don't get that either.
That being said, the teama nd its offense executed well enough to finish the season with a bang.Way to go guys.

    DinTexas

  • Is there something Jimbo has against a simple QB sneak on 4th and inches? Twice last night he's still giving the ball to a back seven yards deep! This is why it's hard for me to get down on EJ. How much unneeded pressure is put on him by his HC's lousy playcalling? I swear Jimbo seems incapable of learning from his mistakes. Is it any mystery every game this year followed the same script?

    BigErn

  • The offense had enough talent and potential to be a great FSU offense-but the inconsistency (especially on 3rd down) killed it. The primary culprit IMO was Jimbo for a few different reasons that we all know.

    TNOLE27

  • The kicker set a record too (career)! But, unfortunately that says we are not scoring TD's. I'm not a Jimbo hater just want them to finish things off!
