If Miami gets, say, 30 over three

  • Noleville said...

Maybe I'm alone here, but I think the NCAA handled Ohio State perfect. It was tattoos after all, and the coach that lied was stripped of his wins, fired and basically prohibited from coaching for 5 years. The players all got suspended and the university got a bowl ban and loss of ships.

Auburn didn't "skate", they just haven't been caught yet.

PSU got pile driven under the turf.

Tennessee got more than they deserve from Kiffin being Kiffin.

UNC is the only one that has skated, and man did they skate. IMO what happened at UNC is just as bad if not worse then what happened at Miami. The "good ole' boy network" must really be churning on that one.

Agree on UNC, man. They skated big time. They should have gotten USC x 1.5

  • Three post season games - not three bowl games. And you should feel lucky, because the way your QB was playing at the end of the season, we could very well have beaten you guys.

As for proof, I have lots of receipts for restaurants. If I write EJ Manuel's name on my credit card statement, is that proof that I took him out to dinner? Oh yeah, and I saw him out the other night and asked him to take a picture with me. Conclusion - I paid for dinner because I have a picture with him and a credit card receipt.

Of course you want us to stink. He kicked your a$$e$ in just about every year that mattered. When both teams are good, we have your number. But you should keep hoping we suck - that's what weakminded people want (by the way, I don't think the school or the players want us to be bad - they love the competition and are not afraid to play us every year - unlike the stinkin' Gators).

    Crozea55,

Dude you are telling the Truth about the NCAA, they are not consistent at all, I too have watched how they have handled USC, OSU and UNC and still have to give Miami and Oregon verdicts.

I know a lot of Noles want us to suffer, But my question to a lot of guys is this, Do you really think this Little man(Rat) who has taken peoples life savings can be trusted, I mean really I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw a 100lb weight.

I like many Miami fans will be glad when this is over, we have taken 3 bowl bans, Yeah we will lose some Schollies but I can't see us getting what they gave USC and Penn State and nobody should suffer the way Penn State has, I mean Punish the people who took a blind eye too that Mess but you tell me that the SEC boosters are not paying kids too go to their schools, Nobody in the ACC has those type pockets and I mean Nobody.

A couple issues, Of course nobody is going to take the word of a Ponzi schemer as the only evidence used to punish UM. Everything that was published in the original Yahoo article was corroborated by multiple sources and with ample evidence. That is only what was published and released, there is no telling what the NCAA actually knows.

The hope you guys should have is the NCAA is so terribly inconsistent that there is no telling what they will do. The bowl ban thing is blown out of proportion since UM still cashed the bowl revenue sharing check. The major point of the bowl ban is to hit the school where it hurts most, the wallet. The NCAA may decide those "bowl bans" were not enough punishment and can possibly mention that. It was not like UM said before the season that they would self-impose. They waited until the very end to make that decision. Even if i give the benefit of the doubt about the ACC Champ game this week, that is one bowl game, not sure a conference championship constitutes a bowl ban.

I think this is great! I never go to UM message boards (who would?), so I have never gotten to see what it looks like for a UM fan to totally bury his head and avoid a mountain of evidence proving the school's guilt. Love it! Great job, man.

Let's hope you are right, because at the rate you guys are going there won't be any more football at duh U if Nevin is right.

Perhaps, but history has also shown that when Miami's good, it's because they were cheating. Look, Shapiro is a jacknut who's credibility is questionable. However, his claims are believable from the simple fact Miami has been punished for these exact allegations (Luther Campbell) 15 years ago.

No one wants Miami to be bad per sey, but they do want them to take the punishment they deserve.

First, you guys weren't beating us. I don't care how bad EJ was, you guys don't/didn't have the depth to hang.

Secondly, Come on man. You guys have boosters that blurred the lines and you got caught. This happens at every single school. The difference is, your boosters are flashy and stupid. You're kidding yourself if you don't think the punishment from the NCAA is going to be warranted.

Thirdly, nobody wants you to suck because we're worried about um and the 80's making a comeback. Most want you to suck 'cause you're our rival, though admittedly, if we have to stay in the ACC I wouldn't mind you fielding a competitive team to help with our SOS.

  • The reason why USC got nailed is because they didn't play ball. The NCAA doesn't really want to hurt programs any more than they have to in order to keep the non-cheating (or, in some cases, the not-yet-caught) schools happy that someone isn't getting away with horrible things. What gets a school like USC in real trouble is when they refuse to act like they're sorry and when they try to stonewall - or when they, like SMU, just systematically ignore the NCAA's punishments (by the way, for anyone that might make the comparison, Miami's case is not nearly as bad as SMU - not even in the same ballpark). The NCAA believed that USC had committed serious violations but USC and its athletic director got arrogant and acted like they could just wait it out and pretend like it was no big deal. The result is they got hammered. It was a reminder to schools that as long as they act really, really sorry, include some seemingly meaningful penalties in the proposed punishment, and maybe fire a person or two as a scapegoat, then everyone is satisfied that the public facade of clean, well-regulated college athletics is being properly maintained. Ohio State and UNC played the game. We'll see how well Miami has played it.

You are absolutely right. Our boosters are complete idiots. If Shapiro tried that in Alabama, he would no longer exist. In Miami, the hip-hop goes with the territory. And I think you would be hard pressed to find a successful football program that didn't "take care" of their kids. Miami wasn't good because of Uncle Luke, they were good because of Howard and Jimmy. And while you are throwing stones, just consider that FSU was made up of the same kids that Miami was made up of, and I am sure the "extracurriclar" activities were just as similar. The difference between Miami and FSU in the 80s was about 1 point, and that is it.

  • People saying you can't trust Shapiro because he is a felon are forgetting that it takes a thief to catch a thief. Everyone said Canseco was full of shit because he was caught cheating and we saw how that played out.

You're right, they weren't winning because of Uncle Luke. It takes more than good players for that to happen. Like I said though, Miami is winning when they're cheating. Perhaps it's coincidence, but it's much easier to recruit when players are being "helped out"; especially when it feeds the "bad boy' attitude that the Miami population revolves around.

This makes some sense. But unc created an entire degree program for at risk basketball and football players. They got hit a little harder than FSU and we self reported and acted about as contrite as a school can.

No matter how you look at it the unc sanctions were a joke.

OSU I can understand a bit more since all they actually uncovered was the tattoo stuff and the cover up by Tressel, though I'm sure there was a bunch more to find if they really tried. But that's the thing the ncaa doesn't really try very hard unless there's some sort of personal grudge by one or more of the people with power, which is why I believe FSU (mascot thing) and usc (no idea) got penalized harsher than they should have.

  • Of course Miami self-imposed a bowl ban and the ACC Championship game! It was to their benefit! That was gonna be 2 more loses for the year. Hopefully because some of their previously players are not participating in the investigation, the NCAA will come down harder on them.

Of course every school does it (pays players). That was actually the gist of the second point in my original post. But you wouldn't have been "miami" with out some $100 hand shakes. You would have been "good" had you just paid for players. You would have been "good" had you just had good coaching. You guys were great in the 80's because you paid and had great coaching.
The difference between us and you in the 80's may have been 1 point, but today it's most definitely a 2 TD advantage. Like I said, if we have to stay in the ACC that's bad news for both of us. Hopefully we can get out so I can enjoy the fire from afar.

USC also only had two athletes involved in their scandal, Bush and Mayo, and they still got hammered. Miami's situation involves dozens of players and took place over 8 years!!! If that's not lack of institutional control, I'm not quite sure what is!

I think what will kill you guys is that your baseball team was placed on probation in '03 for 5 years. And when any sports team is found to be in major violation of NCAA rules then the university's athletic department is put on probation, not just the team that originally committed the crimes. And when the NCAA issued that punishment in '03, they labeled UM a repeat offender due to the Pell grant scandal that took place in 1996.

So if what Shapiro says is true, and he can prove it happened when he says, then not only did these major violations take place while your school was on probation already, but you guys will be labeled a repeat-repeat offender. Somehow I feel like sacrificing two 6-7 seasons plus the chance to get spanked in the ACCCG isn't nearly enough to compensate for what went on there.

Now I, more then anyone, would love to see y'all get murdered but it's just not going to happen. It's all about $$$ nowadays and as much as the NCAA hates UM, they know that UM Competitive= Swag=Controversy=Attention=$$$.

    Clin1013

  • Something to remember is that the NCAA has developed a new set of standards for punishment and I believe UM will the first they test it out on.

I have a feeling your entire knowledge of the Hurricane program comes from the 30 for 30 episode. There has NEVER been any claim of $100 handshakes. Actually, money didn't change hands until AFTER they were already here. On top of that, the school was never involved. Luke was never a part of the school. He was a part of the community, and well known by the players. Now maybe the kids stayed here because they knew that old Uncle Luke was taking care of them, but that totally disregards the fact that Miami was the most dominating force in football (much like Alabama is now). And for the record, Miami has never been accused of any violations from those events. The Pell Grant scandal was completely unrelated and was actually a federal offense by a crooked employee.

As for the 2 tds, let's see what happens next year. Thanks for the exchange. You guys have been pretty classy in your remarks. I could never have this conversation with those hicks from central Fla.

The teams you played at the end of the season had horrible defenses (71st, 57th, 110th ranked scoring defenses). If we had played you again we would beat you by more and would be getting our 5th in row this year.

It will be very interesting to see if UM releases the NOA to the public. If they don't I expect UM to get hammered by rival recruiters saying that it must be really bad or they wouldn't be hiding it.

I seriously doubt boosters were waiting until the kids got to school to pay them, and I really couldn't care less how it happened. The point is you guys paid and got caught, and being a booster makes you a part of the school (someone correct me if I'm wrong) in the eyes of the NCAA.

  • Most of us don't hate FSU - you are our rival so we are always competing with you - but it's not really hate. The fact is we respect FSU, because you could have cancelled the series when you went to the ACC but you didn't. There is no respect for UF. They are a bunch of cowards hiding behind the SEC brand. They would cancel the series with you guys if it wasn't written into the constitution.

And I believe you are right the way the NCAA looks at boosters. But technically, if I give $10 to UM I think that makes me a booster too. Uncle Luke never gave any money to the school so he wasn't a booster. But boosters at Miami are not like boosters at the older more established schools. Most of them probably never even went to Miami. They are just rich people that moved into the community and have charitable intentions.
