If I had have told you on January 3 last year

  • That Greg reid would not play a down for us this year, Brandon Jenkins would only play 1 half the entire season and Chris Thompson would be on his way to a 1000 yard season but blew out his knee, and yet we still went 12-2 and won the ACC and a BCS game would you have believed me?

  • Don't bother.

  • That scenario would make one think about attaining a 12-2 Accship an OB victory. posters can bash the coaching as much as they want (some of it deserving) but the coaching staff has done an impressive coaching job under the adversity of injury to OL and CT and EJM in 2011 and those stated above in 2012. There is a lot to be said about the the teams depth from good recruiting and coaching that shows the improvement in the program.

Life is good. Now lets go win another championship.

I would have believed you, and I would have said I'd be happy with that outcome.

Anyone who isn't happy with 12 wins and a BCS victory is delusional, and trying to use logic with them is pointless. There are people who aren't happy with *how* we got there, and I can understand their point of view. It basically boils down to believing that we play below our potential, something that I tend to feel as well. When watching our games we just don't look like a dominating team.

At the end of the day, it's hard to remember that we have a 1st time head coach, a rival that's done very well recently, a schedule that didn't suck till WV bailed on us, etc, etc. What we see is the media hyping us, people picking us to win the NC, #1 recruiting classes, and more and more positive comments - and little perspective on what that happens. The devil is always in the details, and our details aren't always great for managing fan perception. We may have #1 recruiting classes, but what if some of the highly rated guys end up being lazy? What if 30 out of 100 4* guys are bad apples, and we end up having to take 5 risks because the other 70 less risky guys were scooped up by programs that have had more success than we have lately. We end up looking good because we grabbed 10 4* guys, but reality is that 5 were actually riskier than who our opponents took. I'm not saying that's the case by any stretch, but it's a possibility. Also, Jim keeps things quiet. What if the coaches had issues with each other (an often spoken rumor)? What if that translated to a bit of lack of motivation by the players? Finally, the media will *always* over-hype us, because it's to their benefit. Our brand is *loved*, and they all want us to do well. More eye-balls on TV, more bowl tickets sold, more T-Shirts bought. They will *always* hype us to help their bottom line. That's why we almost always start ranked higher than we finish. FSU hype = money.

And, why is it that no one on here ever points out the fact that EJ looked terrible in the UF game, which also happened to be when he got emotional about his *mother having cancer*. I can't believe no one ever admits that he not only deserves a pass for that performance, but we should be embarrassed for not being more understanding and supportive.

So, the result is irrational expectations that look completely reasonable - the issues with our team are kept quiet, and the media is hyping us. Why wouldn't we logically conclude that we're NC caliber? And, we're pretty damn close, so it's actually harder to believe that we're not quite there - you have to be a contrarian, and it's hard to fight the world. You definitely don't want to fight the world on a message board.

When you hear that you're one of the best, it's not enough to win. You have to win decisively and with style. Hopefully we get there, but we're not there yet. And, no combination of stats or facts is going to make people feel good about struggling and getting 12 wins. All the media is telling them is that we underachieved.

It was ugly at times, and damn painful very often, but it was a great season.

There are like 35 threads on the board begging for perspective. We get it. The season's over. Move on.

NC State is still inexcusable. And so is EJ Manuel playing like he did against UF.
12-2, ACC Champs, and Orange Bowl Champs sounds great. It is not something I want to downplay since I'm too young to remember FSU's last 12 win season, but there were plenty of things that made me uneasy throughout the year.

January 3rd last year our schedule looked a whole lot better than it does now.

  • Would you also have told me Georgia Tech lost to Middle Tennessee State, VT lost to Pitt & Cincy, USF was atrocious, Miami needed last second prayers to beat GT & NC State and finally that we'd struggle to beat those teams, I wouldn't have believed you either.

Look, I'm happy we won 12 games, but with this schedule - including a bowl against a plucky group of really, really good high schoolers & 13 wins should be penciled in (this assumes a loss to UF, not at all happy about it, but fine, it's understandable, and an Orange Bowl win against NIU).

But I respect that you're happy with the season.

You ought to look at the results of the mighty SEC teams. This stuff happens to most of them. Heck, Alabama and the invincible Saban needed a miracle to beat LSU, the same LSU that lost to Clemson. Florida? let's go over their schedule. Let's not, you know what it is. ND survived squeakers, one they should have lost except for horrible calls. SC gets all this credit for playing without lattimore....I'd like them to play without Clowney, their backup DE, thie kick returner, and their corner.

At the beginning of the year, few people were predicting a run of the table, and that was with all players healthy. But I respect that you're unhappy with the season.
