I think we could very easy rip off 5 straight wins

  • Beating puss teams doesn't make me feel better. It's time we started beating the big boys.

  • I agree that FSU should rip off several wins in a row. 9-2 heading into Gainsville is likely. I just fail to see what the big deal is about beating a bunch of CFB bottom feeders. Maryland just got destroyed by Temple. Miami just lost to K-State. Wake and Duke are, well, Wake and Duke. These are not good teams. FSU will have played two legit teams when it heads into Gainsville. And it will have lost them both.

  • We play the schedule we are dealt. A win is a win in my mind. It wasn't too long ago that we struggled to win 6 games in a season.....playing an even easier schedule.

We will win out fair share. We did beat #13 Miami and #20 USC last year. I think we will improve going forward. Remember, Fisher's two top recruiting classes are freshman and Sophomore. If we are having this conversation in another year or two, I will be concerned.

  • people are ignoring the fact that Reid didn't play and he is the biggest playmaker on the team. couldn't run nickel today without Reid that really hurt us

Yeah we could . Put Brooks out there and problem solved. Playing with Williams and Bradham in coverage that much was a joke.

if we could have we would have, that's why when Rhodes went down Brooks came in and Joyner moved to corner. not having Reid hurt very much in this game

I'm not understanding your argument. You said we couldn't play nickel because Reid was hurt. Sub in Brooks for Reid and yes we could play nickel. It would be a much better option than having WIlliams and Bradham in on passing situations.

  • o-town, are you going to be one of those guys that will just claim we out talent people even when we go undefeated?

Seriously, you are arm-chairing this one to death.

I agree with your points on offense with substitutions. I think Jimbo is overwhelmed coaching up QBs, and calling plays, and dealing with players all at once on the sideline. I think we have lost some of those personel matchups that Jimbo would get for us in 2007 and 2008 with the O.

From a D perspective, you're nuts. The personel decisions have been excellent. We only have 2 fluid linebackers on this team. Telvin Smith, who is undersized, and Christian Jones, who is a stud. In my eyes, this unit is about a B- to C+ at the college level. We need to recruit this position up. That said, we are facing an offense that is running multiple looks, and play calling based on our personel on the field. Play nickel? Yeah, we would have been gashed all game by the run. We needed our backers in there. Unfortunately, all 3 aren't that fluid.

My only gripe defensively was defensively playcalling. We saw how rattled Boyd was early in the second half. I personally would have liked to see Stoops step on the gas. Only gripe. But as another poster mentioned, we were burned by a TD when blitzing in the 4th quarter.

One thing would solve a problem right away. Start playing Brooks and Karlos Williams A LOT the next 3 weeks, and let them learn from their mistakes. Get them ready. Because unfortunately, Terrance Parks is just a guy at this point. Just a guy. Could be MAC, could be a K State. Just a guy.

    Bowden4prez

  • Again, you do realize that if we would have gone nickel, we would have been gashed like crazy in the running game? You watch Mickey Andrews D at all against UF with Tebow? Remember that? You need 3 backers on the field against that offense. Unfortunately, only 2 of our backers are fluid enough in pass coverage.

It is what it is man. We are getting there. We are still a year away personel wise from being elite defensively.

I would think more people would bitch about our OL recruiting, which has shown that you can be well coached, but that doesn't make up for lack of size and strength.

    Bowden4prez

  • Bowden4prez, I'm not implying that we should have played nickel the majority of the game. i talking about in obvious passing situations. We played a lot of nickel of against Oklahoma. I'm saying that not having Reid out there should not have deterred us from playing nickel. When I said put in Brooks and problem solved, I meant that we have the personnel to play nickel even without Reid.

    This.

    Get the rookies in there.

  • Something is wrong. There is a disconnect somewhere. No running game, after what we had last year.

I have no clue what is going on, but something is wrong here. This is not a cohesive team.

Losing McMahon and Hudson was a bigger loss than any one of us expected. Bringing in Fahrenkrug was probably an attempt to ease the loss. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked well for us.

  • Bowden,

Appreciate the post. Couldn't agree more. Disappointed in the two losses, but glad to see you and a few others can put things in perspective. We have a great shot to run table from here on out until UF game.

    Bowden,

Appreciate the post. Couldn't agree more. Disappointed in the two losses, but anybody who thinks this team hasn't improved from last year is crazy. We have a great shot to run table from here on out.

I disagree our defense has improved immensely but our offense has stepped back to jeff bowden times and that negates anything the defense has improved on. Trickett is a good qb. He proved that today. But we have no run blocking and almost no pass blocking. I would love for this team to run the table but right now I don't know how we outscore wake forest in two weeks. Revenge game for them and they have embarrassed us recently. I am concerned

  • I can tell you what is wrong with the OL.

    1) Farhenkrug hasn't caught up to the speed of the game yet. Kid is loaded with talent, but is coming straight from JUCO. Also doesn't help that he was a center in the spring, all fall, and then before OU, was moved to guard.

    2) Spurlock and Faircloth aren't Hudson. They just aren't. And frankly, they aren't the same caliber of recruit. Trickett said when he recruited Hudson, that had he been 2 inches taller, he would have been recruited by everyone. Faircloth and Spurlock were more projects.

    3) OL injuries. Couldn't gel in the spring due to injury, and couldn't gel in the fall due to injury. These guys are going to be forced to gel mid season.

Outside of that. No conspiracy theories here. Trickett is still a great coach. I think he needs to land guys that are physically more talented, and we are starting to do that. Wouldn't be shocked to see Tre Jackson start at mid-season. This is the type of kid that becomes an AA at FSU at guard.

Jeff Bowden times? We never had QBs throwing for 300 yards in 05 against good football teams. Especially QBs with no starting experience, asked to start for the first week as a RS FR.

Pass Pro was outstanding. Don't know what you saw. They had what, 2 sacks? Without a running game? Sorry, you can't ask for much more than that.

Agreed the lack of run game is concerning, see my post about the OL. There are some circumstances preventing it right now, and there is also a talent issue at the other guard spot. Think that gets resolved soon. Either someone steps up, or Jackson / Matias are stepping in. Plain and simple.

I hope you're right my man. I'm concerned with wf at home next and bc at home late. Two defenses we always struggle with and bc will get better...like always

Edit: defenses we struggled with when we had a decent OL

    donjuanmc

  • I'll tell you what. If we lose to Wake or BC, I'll eat crow for days on this board. It's not happening. These two teams aren't in the same universe as Clemson.

Frankly, Clemson should be in the ACC championship game, and if they aren't, it's time to fire Dabo. People will shit their pants if Rich Rod takes this team over with all that talent...

    Bowden4prez

  • Dabo does nothing for that team. The reason Clemson is good because they have an elite assistant coaching staff. Dabo does nothing but be a cheerleader and make sure he stays the hell out of the way of the assistants. Jimbo should learn from Dabo and hire an offensive coordinator.
