I am opening myself up here, but here goes

  • I have heard from the Baylor 24/7 site that a strong rumor coming from the ACC meetings is that Jim Swofford may be removed as commission.

The Big 12 has scheduled a meeting at the end of May...if a deal was to happen, it would be in principle at that time, and the Big12 would vote to extend a formal invite to FSU/Clemson. It also sounds like Miami would pass on the Big12 which would open the door for Louisville.

Hoping you guys join the conference, but I would put that odds of that happening, even with the smoke, at 35%.

    Scharnell

  • I would not be surprised to see Miami stay in the ACC after the athletic dept crapped the bed yet again to tarnish the University image. They might have a tougher time now than FSU and Clemson will in convincing the Academic side that the move is needed.

They also have a large alumni base in the Northeast which is why the Big East was such a good fit until they were forced to move or get left behind in a gutted conference. The Big 12 has no presence in the NY/Boston market.

My question would be, does it take unaminous vote to sign off or majority. I'm saying do what is best for fsu. If the sec signs this big new deal and we are making 10 mil less a year then we won't be able to keep up. Eventually the numbers will take their toll.

Yeah, I agree none of this makes sense, especially if as I heard earlier money was left on the table.

Where have you gone Gene Corrigan, a lonely conference turns its eyes to you

Not necessarily, provided ND comes on board (there is more and more smoke regarding that every day it seems) and you can snag a PSU then the ACC would be an excellent fb conference. We'll just have to see, hate that the SEC thing will never happen though.

Hate it for you guys ! You guys were a power for a long time but in all honesty the acc has sucked the life out of you. Im still not sure why you guys did not jump at the chance to join the southeastern conference when you could have.

I wonder how much money it cost the ACC to keep Raycom in the deal??

    Actually:

UVA-major improvements tot eh stadium and new all football building, with weightroom

UNC-upgrades to stadium, and new football facility

NCSU-MASSIVE stadium upgrades, new football facility

    Wake Forest-huge stadium upgrade

    Duke-New football facility

    Clemson-stadium upgrades, new facility

I don't know on GT, BC UMD, Miami

    VT has a planned expansion

    On 3rd tier rights:

In the Big 12, “third tier rights” consist of all those select women’s basketball, baseball and Olympic sports games as well as one select football game per season (the least desirable one) and a few select men’s basketball games (also, the least desirable ones). ESPN owns the Big 12 first-tier rights while Fox has its second-tier and the individual schools, the third.

I also present you the following link, courtesy of one Corey Dowlar (wtf does he know anyway?) read all that, then make your B12 is a better move than the ACC argument.

    pben,

Using chuck oliver "The king" (at least in his own mind) of college football as a source? I am still waiting for his 2 premier UF wr's to actually get on the field. I know chuck, they were soooooooooo deep at wr last year.

He is mildy entertaining in his lack of analysis. an analyst's contest between The King and a sand gnat would be a competitive contest.

Chuck Oliver's analysis and $3.00 is worth $3.00.

    you get my point.

At the end of the day, whether we win or not we still get ratings, as you already posted

Even if we were a national power this contract would still suck b/c it would still be South of 20 million. The difference would be our tier 3 rights. FWIW, Ithink OU gets arounf 5 million on OKLA for tis tier 3 rights. I suspect we could do a little better in a state with 19 million.

Should we go? Not sure. We will ro won't be good regardless of the conference affiliation.

However, those of you who thik the faculty senate can block a move need to put down the bottle. Hell, Mizzou went to the SEc and no one in its adm wanted to go to the SEC.

Well he basically cut n pasted the down n dirty of the contract, it is not just his opinion.

Doesn't matter we are not going anywhere.

  • Wrong. The UT AD Dodds just came out saying as many as 3 UT football games could be on the LHN this fall.

Well lets start with your deal is not even signed yet, the big TV contract.

So how he can make a statement like I have no idea.

    Pbenuncensored26482

  • Pben, please let us know how FSU will stay competitive with teams from the SEC and at the same time resolve the $2.4 million deficit with pending athletic budget cuts. For the sake of our university will have to explore all options.

    Go Noles!!!

    seminole4life

  • How much money was left on the table?

One thing to factor in is that the Big12 payout will go up 2-4 million per team with us and a real 2nd team such as Clemson.

That gets you, lets say 23 million. I have reason to believe the 24-25 million number would be closer to the reality. Even if you only get another 3 million from tier 3 rights that gets you almost double ACC money for the next 6 years and then 10 million more per year.

I also doubt we are going anywhere although the big 12 is more interested than i would have thought. We are being seen as a potential 3rd anchor. I guess turning on TV sets does matter in some places after all.

    Go Noles!!!

We are not on equal footing "right now" with LSU and 'Bama, thats it.

I would say on a neutral field we are "even" with UGA and USCjr, hell we may even be a slight favorite, and the rest we can beat I have no doubt.

I am not buying this 3rd tier thing at all. Because Kansas can sell hoops games and Texas can sell anything with their brand, does not mean FSU is netting 5-8mill, and I doubt UT is going to start sharing, I don't care what a bunch of internet message board gurus say, that just ain't computing.

BTW who is paying our buyout? the B12 is loaning WVU part of it, so where do you think WVU is paying that back out of? The TV deal, that is where.

We need to get hard numbers that aren't just pulled out of cyberspace's ass, before we can intelligently discuss this.

    Pbenuncensored26482

  • So, why do you keep shooting down everyone's guess if you don't know either?

Is it safe to say that after travel FSU could NET millions more in the B12? I think that's safe, how many millions is a guess. That is what everyone keeps saying, I think, that we'll make millions more, how many is a guess.

That seems to be a fact. Why do you continue to argue that part?

I know for a fact we're bolting. I can play the "doesn't matter we're not going" game. My Addidas buddies told me it's true...

All I know is I want to see better football draws come to Doak than UMD, NCSU, Wake, Duke, etc... I get excited about TCU, KU, OSU, etc... regardless of their football heritage. They're football schools. At least we won't be losing to basketball schools any more.

And before you argue that we've not been good enough...nothing in the last ten years, shy of last years team, has anything to do with this years team. The coaches and kids in their third year have something to prove. Before I consede to the competition in the B12, I'd like to see what we have this year. I'm expecting big things, certainly not 3 losses.

While I am actually in favor of moving out of the ACC for a number of reasons, I completely agree with this.

Great reply. Makes no sense like most of your posts in the thread.

Theoretically couldn't the B12 loan FSU the money and FSU pay it back and STILL make millions more than what the ACC will pay out next year? or for the next 9 years?

I know you love to stir the pot, so carry on...

Look, you just contradicted yourself...if FSU has to "borrow" the payout money, how exactly is that going to be paid back? From the Television contract thats how, throw in the new travel expenses and there goes your bump up..

Also I don't see how in the world FSU is going to sell its tier 3 rights for 5-8mill annually, that makes no sense.
Attack me all you want, but I am far from the only one questioning all of this, just saying.

If giving another side is stirring the pot, then so be it.

    Pbenuncensored26482

  • Its on the internet so it must be true moon

I agree FSU needs to do it's due diligence here on both what the ACC and Big 12 can offer but I just don't like Barron simply shutting down the option.

As a first time President with a backround in science I think he would be more open to investigation before making a decision.

    bwhnoles

  • How many student athletes does FSU have?

What are the numbers when teams travel other than football and basketball?

    farnsworth

  • Here's another question? Let's say we stay and fall behing uf. How long before we start to lose enrollment numbers. It isn't a coincidence that big time football programs have more people want to enroll than ones that arent .
