How Good Is Ira Denson?

  • If the College Football Gods came down and said, "FSU fans, you can have Laremy Tunsil, but you have to give us Ira Denson back," would you do it? Maybe I'm stupid-in-love with Ira, but I wouldn't.

    What would you do?

  • Sin and sign both.

And if the devil came to you and said FSU could have both Denson and Tunsil and win a Natty this season, in return for your becoming a Gator fan for an eternity upon (your eventual) passing, do you sign on the bottom line?

FSU Football. Making cool the new swag since 2013.

Maybe it's a test and he would give both if you'd pass...like Abraham sacrificing Isaac...bow!

  • Personally, I would keep Denson. While I know Tunsil is a better all around lineman I love how mean and nasty Denson is. He is the exact definition of what you want in a guard. Solid, strong, mean and hard working. Not to mention he made his pledge to us already. I'll stay loyal to my favorite recruit in quite a few years.

  • Denson has won an OL MVP award at the same camp as Tunsil; and he just won the 1-on-1 OL MVP award at the Opening against the best DL in the nation. All that is left for him to do is show out his senior year--which, let's face it, will be easy--and at the UA game, then he'll get his 5th star.

  • We need tackles and they're rarer so....

  • I'm greedy and want both...plus Kirkland.

  • Sorry, need 5 on the OL, not just one. Sign Denson and Tunsil... plus 3 more.

Unfortunately, I'm not sold on Golson just yet.

  • Nobody's come out and said that they would take Tunsil over Denson.
It begs the question: how good IS Denson? He's got to be 1 of the top 2 OL in FL (the other being Tunsil of course). He's got to be the best OG in the nation. Right?

That may possibly be because no one actually thinks we land him (UF), so the easy/safe pick is Denson.

  • Welp, I'll be that guy...give me Tunsil. Dude is a special talent. Love, love, love Denson though.

  • You take Tunsil. Elite OT's are are much more valuable than guards. Even those as good as Denson.

Speaking of OTs I'm not sold on Golson either.

Isn't that a somewhat antiquated viewpoint? I mean a player is a player is a player (with the exception of QB). Obviously, great OTs are hard to find, but if you have great OTs and weak OGs, isn't your offense just as screwed? You can't have ANY weak links on the O-Line. I'm not just going to blindly take Tunsil because he's an OT. IF I take him over Denson it's because he's a better player/competitor. Right now I keep Denson.

Not saying by any means saying its "easy" to be an elite guard. But, from my limited understanding of OL play (never played OL in my life), there just aren't too many kids out there that possess the talents to be an OT. Taking the skill and quick feet out of the equation, its very rare to find someone with the size and to play OT. There are alot more prospects out there who can be good guards compared to prospects who can be good offensive tackles. I think the NFL draft can attest to this.

Taking nothing away from Denson though, because he is definitely my favorite recruit in this class. Love his nasty streak, swag, and his desire to be the best at his position. I feel him and Trickett are a match made in heaven.

  • Can anyone explain to me why (technically speaking) playing OT is more difficult than playing OG? They are two entirely different positions!
