Ahh, the old "try forming your own opinion" defense.

    Works every time.........

I did that, based on what I have read and concluded. My opinion is at odds with yours, so you resort to these tactics..........

Who knew Jay Paterno was a member of this board?

You don't have your own opinion or the one you claim is yours is based on lies. Please tell us what you've read because its damn sure not the Freeh report.

Pot meet kettle, your opinion has been exposed so you resort to calling the poster Jay Paterno, very witty.

  • By the crisp, official tone of your post, it's surely clear that you've read it.........fingergun

I don't believe either of you have, and yes, I read through most of it.

The question becomes which of us is blind?

I'll leave this thread convinced it's not me.

You'll leave it convinced it's not you.

The only thing we know for certain is the man that you are trying to prop up at all costs has been proven a fraud a liar, and a man with no honor based on the actions he chose to take.

Whether you choose to believe that or not is of no consequence.

He is major part of a stain that will cover a major institution for a generation or more, and his name will never be mentioned without this attached.

From pages 14-15 of the Freeh report:

Four of the most powerful people at the Pennsylvania State University- President Graham B B Spanier, Senior Vice President-Finance and Business Gary C. Shultz, Athletic Director Timothy M Curley and Head Football Coach Joseph V Paterno- failed to protect against a child sexual predator harming children fo over a decade. These men concealed Sandusky's activities from the Board of Trustees, the university community and authorities. They exhibited a striking lack of empathy for Sandusky's victims by failing to inquire as to their safety and well-being, especially by not attempting to determine the identity of the child who Sandusky assaulted in the Lasch Building in 2001. Further, they exposed this child to additional harm by alerting Sandusky who was the only one who knew the child's identity, of what Mcqueary saw in the shower on the night of February 9, 2001.

Just stop. You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. There are references to paterno's, the president's, the senior vice president's and the ad's inaction all throughout the report. Schultz and Curley have been brought up on charges, and it's safe to assume were paterno alive today he would also be brought up on charges. You can be an apologist all you'd like. The fact remains, that there was an independent investigation that found wrongdoing on behalf of "4 of the most powerful people at the Pennsylvania State University", paterno happened to be named as one of those people. Do you know of an independent report stating otherwise?

  • Copy and pasted from the findings of the Freeh report as issued in Louis Freeh's statement:

"In critical written correspondence that we uncovered on March 20th of this year, we see evidence of their proposed plan of action in February 2001 that included reporting allegations about Sandusky to the authorities. After Mr. Curley consulted with Mr. Paterno, however, they changed the plan and decided not to make a report to the authorities. Their failure to protect the February 9, 2001 child victim, or make attempts to identify him, created a dangerous situation for other unknown, unsuspecting young boys who were lured to the Penn State campus and football games by Sandusky and victimized repeatedly by him."
    ....
"Taking into account the available witness statements and evidence, it is more reasonable to conclude that, in order to avoid the consequences of bad publicity, the most powerful leaders at Penn State University – Messrs. Spanier, Schultz, Paterno and Curley – repeatedly concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky’s child abuse from the authorities, the Board of Trustees, Penn State community, and the public at large. Although concern to treat the child abuser humanely was expressly stated, no such sentiments were ever expressed by them for Sandusky’s victims."
    ....
"The evidence shows that Mr. Paterno was made aware of the 1998 investigation of Sandusky, followed it closely, but failed to take any action, even though Sandusky had been a key member of his coaching staff for almost 30 years, and had an office just steps away from Mr. Paterno’s."
    ....
"Based on the evidence, the only known, intervening factor between the decision made on February 25, 2001 by Messrs. Spanier, Curley and Schulz to report the incident to the Department of Public Welfare, and then agreeing not to do so on February 27th, was Mr. Paterno’s February 26th conversation with Mr. Curley."

That's just a snippet of what is contained in the report. Any information contrary to what is stated above is false, unless you yourself are an investigative authority with access to PSU records.

This comes directly from the statement made by Mr. Freeh. This is not mindless media drivel.

Yes and their is no record of that conversation between Curley and Joepa, so that proves nothing. Their failure to report didn't make Sandusky abuse anyone, reporting doesn't guarantee it stops either. That is just opinion, like in the report.

Yes he was aware of the 98 incident that was investigated by authorities and nothing came about it, why would joepa report that? Sandusky was cleared of any wrong doing at that point for the 98 incident. what action is there to take? Sandusky retired in 99.

There isn't much their showing joepa had any wrong doing. Should he have followed up, considering what happened after, yes, but that doesn't mean anything would have stopped.

The fact that sandusky retired in 99 is completely irrelevant. What is relevant however, is sandusky's continual molestation and rape of young boys that occurred at the Lasch Building. Furthermore, we KNOW that paterno knew of at least one of these crimes. We also KNOW that he did not contact the proper authorities. Not doing so is nothing short of immoral.

Edit: I just read your post once more.

"There isn't much their showing joepa had any wrong doing. Should he have followed up, considering what happened after, yes, but that doesn't mean anything would have stopped."

Are you for real? paterno is absolved of any wrong doing because we don't know that the raping would have stopped? Followed up? My man, he had a moral obligation to contact the proper authorities. Not because he's jopa, beloved HFC at psu, but because he's a human being. He was a significant part of the cover-up. If any one of them had spoken up this would be an entirely different conversation.

  • JoePa cultivated a culture of fear to protect his friend and his chance to keep winning. I believe that whole heartedly. And if JoePa was not one of the 4 powerful people who was it? Ben Franklin? Nope he is dead too.
