Have I missed something (Coker will be starting QB)

  • It wouldn't be a shock. It's far too early to tell but Clint knows the playbook inside out and backwards. We shall see. I'd like to see a 4 way heat thru spring practices though.

  • Coker is hurt atm right? If he cannot practice or play in the Spring game then I see Winston as our QB. If he can play then it is a coin flip of who does better. Although I do wonder if Trickett will start no matter what due to Jimbo's relationship with his father. At least Jimbo might give him a shot until a loss would force Jimbo's hand to start Coker/Winston.

  • Here is an interesting question about our QB siution:

    If Winston wins the starting job, do Coker and Trickett transfer?

    Trickett would be a toss up since his dad coaches here, but I would imagine he wants to start and play somewhere. I would imagine Coker would since he appears to have a lot of upside and could probably play for a bunch of D1 schools. If Winston does win the job it would be somewhat scary if our QB depth was:

    Winston
    McGuire
    Franklin

    Trickett is a rsjr. but he'll probably graduate this coming year.

    If Winston were to win the job, and the worry is about people possibly transferring out, then you could always wait and name a starter the week of game 1. pretty much locks up the entire group for that season.

    downside is you leave a constant rotation of qbs getting reps and never let #1 get the lions share until right before the game with Pitt

  • Winston has said will not transfer. He apparently is loving FSU atm and said if he does not make it in football he will go 100% on baseball. Now Coker might transfer since he is not a 2 sport athlete. I do not see Trcikett transferring either. He seems to be having a good time at FSU and is already an upperclassmen RS Jr.

  • Trickett wants to be a major college OC from what I hear. He would simply need to decide what would be better, cruising through two more years of basically assistant coaching at FSU or going to Samford/UCF to start for his final year. I think the experience would be best on the field.

  • the only way I see Coker (or Winston) beating out Trickett for the starting job is if Coker (or Winston) has a very good grasp of Jimbo's O. ATM I have no idea what sort of grasp Coker (or Winston) has of Jimbo's O.

    If Trickett isn't starter don't be surprised if he's USF starter in 2013. Trickett graduates this spring and would be a two year starter for usf. Personally, I don't have an issue at all with Trickett taking off if he isn't the starter. The kid wants to play.

    They did not really say I was listening to the pod cast of the Jeff Cameron show from Friday (I think), Seems both feel that Coker will be the starter. Im assuming they elaborated on another show as they seemed to talk like everyone knew there stance on it. How does Winston playing Baseball hurt him on his chances of playing QB this season?

    Thanks, I was hoping they had some concrete reasons for saying that, but it sounds like more speculation. Can't wait for practice to start - so many good storylines to follow this year.

    Cameron has always been pretty open about the fact that he doesnt wanna see Clint as the starter in 2013...he almost always mentions Coker before Jameis, as he seems to think playing baseball could steepen his football learning curve. Ive heard him mention this multiple times.

    Could be what the OP is referring to.

  • A lot of people just dont want it to be Trickett and cant imagine Jimbo starting a RFr so Coker is the default pick.

    A couple facts that have to be considered in the QB battle

    1. Coker almost caught Trickett for the #2 spot this summer
    2. Fisher didn't trust Trickett to try to win the UF game
    3. Coker is physically almost the perfect QB
