  • Just sad. Kid couldn't change his ways no matter how much money he had riding on it. Hopefully he gets it together somewhere and changes his life.

  • Sad. Had so many chances. Another 5 star recruit bites the dust.

  • what a waste....

  • My take on this situation is that it's just kind of sad ... Greg obviously has loads of talent and had plenty of opportunity to make the most of it in Tallahassee.

I feel that one of the mistakes the sports reporters often make -- and I'm probably the most guilty of this -- is feeling like our weekly 5-10 minute interview sessions allow us to really "know" a player. So I don't want to come off as if I knew Greg very well. But I will say that my impression of him, especially after his troubles last year, was that he knew he had a responsibility to live up to and that he was taking it seriously.

So it's sad to see his FSU career end like this.

That said, I do believe that this is a bigger blow for Reid than it is for the team. They have a slew of talented defensive backs, who of course will need to adjust, but ought to be fine. And Rashad Greene, Lamarcus Joyner and Karlos Williams are all capable returners, among others ... and the same will likely hold true for Marvin Bracy and Ronald Darby.

  • Tim, I disagree. This is a blow to the team from a mental (swagger) stand point because only Greg and a few others have that 90's - NOLE mentality.

The NOLES will move on, but it's a set back without a doubt.

Mother f%$# the Summer. The long Summer always claims a player or two...without fail...every year.

Greg must have really f@#&ed up because it appeard Jimbo had his back and loved the kid...

  • Sad situation, as always when a young man continues to make poor decisions. (I'm in no way saying he is a bad kid). This one had to hurt Jimbo, he seemed to really like g5 and I'm sure wanted him to turn his life around.

My dad ran into him at Subway a couple of years back, said he was a nice kid. But being from Valdosta(though I wasn't living there when we were recruiting Reid), rumors travel fast in a small town, especially concerning football players. I've heard from teachers, high school football coaches, and others that the guy made boneheaded decisions. Sadly, I'm surprised he lasted this long. I guess because I hadn't heard about him being in trouble, I thought he was proving people wrong. I guess there was more to the story.

  • WTH those were 2 petty charges. He must have done something major we do not know about. You do not ruin a kids future like this over something petty imo.(lots of kids make small mistakes) Something else behind the scenes went down.

  • Likely flunked a third drug test and dismissal is the end result with no debate. Like son like father. He is headed down a dark path if he doesn't grow up.

  • Reminds me of the Preston Parker situation; another talented kid that Jimbo really liked who did one dumb thing after another. Seems like he's landed on his feet...hopefully the same will hold true for Reid.

  • I don't know much but I have a close friend who talked to a couple players and Greg liked to show up blazed and stinky to practice. Had zero regard for authority. Doesn't suprise me at all.

  • I had always felt Greg was a ticking time bomb. He just had that bad boy aura about him, and got in trouble it seemed once every year.

I also thought he was very overrated as a cornerback. Yes he had his moments of sheer brilliance, but usually he was pretty average. That being said, his abilities as a punt returner were some of the greatest i have ever seen in my life, and that alone will be sorely missed. I wonder if he realizes he may have cost us a national championship ? Probably not..

Tim did not say it wasn't a blow to the team.

Greg had swagger, but was it always good? He did a lot of "whoofing" prior to the OU game last season, and OU ate his lunch...........

He made some great special teams plays, but he was average at best in coverage.

FSU will miss his explosive potential, but counter that with the concern that he might be toasted in 1 on 1 coverage or against the run, AND the constant worry if he was gonna be available week to week..........

It's a blow to the team, but not as big as 4-5 other players I could name..........

If a player as undependable and inconsistent as Greg Reid is the difference between this team and a MNC, we are not as good as advertised............

  • For some reason I am unfazed by this. Hate it for Greg but he earned it for sure. Wish him the best. FSU will be A-ok

I doubt we see Rashad returning punts, maybe Im wrong, will be interested in who wins that job

Or his younger brother who is awaiting trial for killing a teammate.

  • I am glad that Jimbo was able to put the team first, instead of the player. The right choice in my opinion. He gave him his chances, but in the end, Reid did not uphold his end of the bargain.

  • I recall during his recruitment that me and Levy Nole were getting bashed for pointing out the gang signs that would throw up after his big plays in HS as well as on his social pages.Same went for DJ Johnson, the receiver that didn't get signed due to academics,I suppose.Wishing the best for Greg in the future.

  • Personal stuff aside, it was fun watching Greg for 3 years! You could tell just watching that he loved playing for the Noles just let his bad take over the good. Let's just hope he straightens out his life and gets it going

You're right ... Greg's absence will absolutely be felt. But like you said, they'll move on. And as for swagger/confidence, that was definitely a part of his game. But who's to say that, given the circumstances, another player won't step up and fill that type of roll in fall camp and into the season?
