DC is not the White Hat Cowboy many believe. There is some merit to what I thought were just bleatings by the Alabama fans I know over Coker, Winston, et. al. being 'recruited' out of their state for FSU. At first I just said sour grapes and chance it, but I've since learned, and this most recent incident supports, the man is a bit different than how his press kit reads.

All that said, in the final analysis, he is just doing his job to the best of his ability. Of COURSE he's going to be more familiar with kids he was trying to pull into FSU, of COURSE most of the work on them has already has been done. He's a direct, convincing salesman, and his spin is highly effective. Those of you who are highly successful selling for a living, as have I, understand this concept. Go to work for a new company - first thing you do is look at your list from your previous company, select the 5 softest targets and get tore in with a BBD = Bigger Better Deal.

I don't like him for other reasons, and have no wish to defend him. BUT, he is being paid just South of a MILLION smackers, to recruit the best talent he can for Auburn. A good many of those are FSU commitments and targets.

Well put. Recruiting boils down to sales, and every industry recycles personnel. It's all in highlighting your products strengths, and can be gone tactfully, without denigrating the former employer.

The reactions you get are rather unpredictable and mirror that of fans in this situation. Some understand that business is business, and some will discredit you for "jumping ship", etc.

At the end of the day, I'm gonna be loyal to whomever signs my paycheck, as long as I am not violating any contracts.

As to golsen, it will be a huge blow to this ol class if he decommits. FWIW, I don't see that happening if all the talk about his relationship with Trickett.
