  • fisher could have said we are committed to the ACC like our lameduck AD but he chose to leave the door open

Fans are not unanimous on the topic. Talk to people.

That's why I said it is growing in favor of realignment.

Most of the people who are against it are writers who don't want to travel to Big 12 schools.

  • I am good with leaving ACC, just wonder how it would change things for us in recruiting.

How about a small minority, there that sounds good.

I think it will help, playing in a major football conference vs the ACC.

  • I'm not a big fan of the idea. I guess there are scenarios that it could be good like adding 4 southeastern teams including Miami but there are just as likely scenarios where the ACC could be made better.

After OU and Texas the big 12 is a stinker. Plus, I don't buy the numbers being thrown around.

It's not as big of a drop off as the ACC, in the end it all comes down to the $$$.

I don't have any inside scoop but after reading all the posts on this subject, the pro-ACC fans bring pretty weak arguments IMO.

Not saying they aren't or that they are.

    What are you talking about?

Go back and look at the final Top 25 rankings.

Big 12 is the second best football conference in the country behind the SEC.

  • I have been on this site for a while now and never posted but there's no better time than now i guess. I don't think there is any comparison competition wise b/t the ACC and current Big XII. If you follow college football at all, there is much more than OU & Texas in that conference. Both Texas Tech and Baylor beat OU last yr. We did not. KSU was 10-2 and arguably should have played in Sugar Bowl instead of VT. OSU was an OT away from playing in national title game. TCU has consistently been solid and beaten several BCS schools. So i think there's no question the Big XII schools are head and shoulders better than the ACC ones we play now

  • Upvote for ya...

Not to mention WVU going to the Big XII. I think it is a solid conference. The only decent excuse for staying is that we are more likely to win the ACC because of the pathetic football that 1/2 the teams play...but we can't even do that!

If the Big XII adds Clemson, Miami, GT, and FSU, I will be happy! I would take VT over GT anytime, but they will probably go after the Atlanta market over Blacksburg.

I could see the SEC adding UVa & VT...I wouldn't touch the current Big East schools and let the ACC & Big East fight over who actually wants to play football & who wants to play basketball.

  • I think the BIG 12 is as good as the ACC in Baketball at least for the past several yrs. ACC Basketball is living on reputation from several years ago when there were good WF teams, good Virginia teams, good Ga Tech teams. This is no longer the case. I doubt we would have had back to back 3rd place finishes in the Big 12 the part 2 years.

    litebulb

  • I wasn't referring to the competition level. I'm not going to argue the cyclical wins of Baylor and Kansas st. I'm simply stating that those teams are kinda....blah. Just like the rest of big 12 sans UT/OU.

The fit sucks. If it happens I hope the money is enough to put the fans through playing a regular season in another region of the country.

All things being equal, or close enough to equal, I prefer the ACC. call me crazy.

Totally agree. The acc has been at best the 4th best b-ball conference the last few years (behind big east, big 12, big 10), and the sec could make the argument they've been better as well. The only big 6 conference the acc has definitively been better than is the pac 12.

Which is why I suspect the most recent expansion focused on b-ball. The additions of 'cuse and pitt should put the acc back into the top 2.

That expansion, along with the geniuses who renegotiated the tv contract, might also spell the end of the acc as a power conference in anything other than b-ball.

It's kind of ironic that pitt and 'cuse left the big east b/c they wanted more stability, and before they even become official members could be walking into a more untenable situation. If clemson and FSU leave and then 2 or all of Gatech, Vatech, and Miami also leave the acc's relevance in football would be over and it would just become a lesser version of the big east. Even if only FSU and clemson leave the acc is still a lesser version of the big east (b4 'cuse and pitt left anyways) in b-ball and slightly better than it in football.

  • At least a move to the big 12 would make the future ooc games we have scheduled a little easier to stomach

  • I know a lot of people that want to stay in the ACC. Theres no conference that compares as far as the cities of the ACC, plus most of out alumni is on the east coast. I like the thought of the Big 12 but we will be displaced from our fans.

I hear what you're saying, the region is not the best fit but I can tell you this; I lived in Lawrence, KS for 2 yrs and people in Manhattan, KS plus TX & Okl schools live and breathe college football. I remember the '02 Iowa St game in KC and how rabid their fans were. So my point is even though there is a fear of the unknown there in the Big XII for some people, I can assure you the culture is much better than our current foes in the ACC......especially if we can get Clemson, Miami and/or GT along for the ride

Part of the problem is fan support now, buy tickets to the home games and money wouldn't be an issue. This is a money move you have to keep up with the Joneses and staying in the ACC doesn't offer that right now. I would rather stay in the ACC but it's almost to the point you can't anymore because of money.

season tickets this year just arent appealing to the average fan. Most people cant realize that because the average fan isnt on football message boards. The average fan spends thanksgiving with his or her family and doesnt go to the UF game. That means that they would be buying season tickets to watch FSU play clemson, 2 D-IAA schools, and a couple other schools that may as well be D-1AA

KSU and Baylor should have been in the Sugar Bowl before VT. I am bias towards Baylor, but if FSU was Baylor last year in the Big 12, you would have been in the BCS. I think FSU is going to be happy with the quality of football over here in the Big 12. Sounds like we are going to get you four eastern teams as well to make traveling closer. Hopefully better bowl ties as well.
