FSU to B12 talk is about to explode

  • boone8466 said...

I know 90% af all sports conversations revolve around football, but you'll see a drop in the quality of your non-revenue sports. texas will always be competitive, but the rest of the big 12--not so much. I understand that FSU has been a real player in the Director's Cup. Quality of competition drops for non-revenue sports.

How many non- revenue sports will we have to drop if we run a yearly deficit?

I've got to say, as a Texas Aggie--I think I'm for the move. I would love to see texas university rot on the vine in essentially a 2 team conference. But, if FSU plus one other team moves to the Big12, then the SEC will swoop in and take Va Tech and probably NCState. The ACC will then die and be absorbed by the remaining conferences.

I just hope you know what your getting into. Dealing with texas university drove us out of the conference. At least we were in their backyard and could keep them in check. Hard to monitor their "shenanigans" from 1000 miles away.

Silly aggy,They use the excuse that they were treated like red headed stepchildren as there reason for leaving. It all boils down to they couldnt recruit and win against us on a cosistant basis. They just couldnt understand why people didnt see them as on the same level as Texas.I live in Gulf Breeze Florida and i see the same thing here with Miami. They won for a short time and think they should be seen in the same light as FSU and get the recruits that FSU gets.So i think you will see where i am coming from.I hope FSU comes to the Big 12.It would be great to add another elite program to the confrence.Tough on the schedule but better in the long run.

I think the biggest thing is because you are their rival and because your area and theirs overlapped it caused a rift.

I would imagine Texas would see FSU as more of a partner, or at worst the sort of crown jewel in the conference. I would expect that, because we pull the Florida market to compliment their Texas market, we would be a school who Texas would prefer to cater to.

We'd be the team Texas would hate to have dissatisfied.

I think its a marriage that would help both of us.It will give us both acsess to the two best recruiting grounds in the country. And push aggy even further down the list in Texas of programs the kids want to play for.

I agree, and i believe both schools could be very successful in each state. I know FSU has found some great players in Texas like Christian Ponder and Mario Edwards Jr, and I'm sure Mack Brown and Texas would benefit from getting into Florida quite a bit.

Do you think that's what Nebraska said? How about Colorado or Missouri?

texas didn't just run the Aggies off, they have run off 4 of the 6 top fanbases in the conference. Say what you will about why Texas A&M left (I'm biased, so feel free to take what I say with a grain of salt), that still leaves 3 other schools that left. If the PAC12 could've tolerated Oklahoma State's horrible academics, then OU and OSU would have both left last summer. As it is, they are trying to make it work. Getting rid of Dan Beebe as commissioner (OU's condition to remaining in the BIG 12) was a great start. He was put in place by texas and has been Dodd's mouthpiece for a longtime.

OU and texas are not partners. Nebraska and texas were not partners. The Aggies and texas were not partners. Why do you think Florida State will be?

The true test of a man's intelligence is how much he agrees with you.

Trading Aggy, Missouri, and Colorado for WVU, FSU and Clemson would be a HUGE win for the Big 12. Dump the dead weight, bring in better programs. Nebraska is the only real loss. Colorado? Please. I would rather have UCF in the conference than Colorado. A&M? When is the last time they did ANYTHING of importance? Missouri? Good TV market....... That's about it.

You're obviously forgetting that A&M has 1 Top 25 finish in the past 10 years! Let's give credit where credit is due. ha ha

TCU is a pretty good add as well with 8 Top 25 finishes since 2002. WVU is at 7 BTW so we added 2 pretty solid teams and are looking at more.

More delusional, error filled comments from the ass To mouth fan.

Texas wanted Swarbrick as Commissioner and OU pushed for Beebe and got their man.
The Pac 12 wanted no part of OU or Okie St. once they realized that UT wasn't leaving.
UT and OU are partners and will remain together.

I whole heartily believe the ACC is nothing more than a basketball conference. The crappy officiating, terrible division alignment, and the mere fact that most of the schools outside of VT, Clemson, and FSU don't care about football, which is the biggest earning college sport today. And in case you haven't heard, FSU is facing a financial deficit which will only be compounded by the current fiscal situation in the state(with public funding being cut significantly)

Well if FSu would have won the national title ACC could be a football show too.

i mean Kentucky won the national title is the SEC a basketball conference? whats wrong with been good in basketball, i really really hope FSU and clemson stay.

  • One school shouldn't have to carry a whole conference. This is a bball conference that cares very little for football.

Your statements, alone, confirm how bad the ACC has gotten. You are relying on one team to carry an entire conference in one sport. ACC has made its intentions known with the additions Syracuse and Pitt: ACC is here for basketball only. It would be best for all of our (FSU's) athletics to move forward into a conference that provides the best economical and competitive advantages for our programs to move forward.

The ACC has very little response to documented complaints by FSU, has not vastly improved its financial standing for its members (as compared to other conferences) and seems to be content with a niche conference (bball only, with some other minor sports). TV revenue is where your bread is buttered and the ACC is not progressive in reaching its maximum potential in TV revenue. FSU, like any other university, has to look after its best interests (academic, financial, etc) and right now the ACC is not our best interest.

Man I was typing at 2 am last night. I didn't go to Maryland. I went to a small college in dc.

But I feel fsu shouldn't Jump ship just yet.
Miami is going to be strong again. So will Maryland after Edsall fully gets the type of student athletes he wants. And after 2 more years of Mike Locksley strong recruiting.

I feel if fsu quits on the acc, then Clemson will probably leave too. Then Maryland would be forced to add south Florida, Vanderbilt or Rutgers and uconn. And become a mega conference, like are talked about on tv. Yes it would be a super basketball conference. But the football is still top level.

Well if fsu leaves the ACC will survive. Miami is not going anywhere Va.Tech is still here, and they win the acc every year anyways. Alot more times than fsu. Can't win the acc. But when to run face Texas, Oklahoma, westva, ok state every year ok.
North Carolina is up and coming. So is NC state and Maryland, so is UVA and Syracuse and Pittsburg. ACC is going to be the #1 Basketball conference in America. And that's really what most of the acc schools really care about. So I get where fsu is coming from. Bye bye and best of luck in the big 12.

  • FSU has been hearing about all these "up and coming" ACC programs for years and none get there.....the divide is only going to get worse with the SEC, PAC12, B1G and now Big 12 out spending everyone else for shiny new facilities. We can either join the money parade or get left behind sweeping the streets for loose change.

Heck we are even helping to carry the load in Bball now after Maryland, Ga Tech, and Wake Forest apparently forgot how to recruit.

The ACC even had to go out and get Syracuse and Pitt to shore up Bball....some of these ACC schools need to stop pointing fingers and look into why the hell their programs have continued to suck.

Basketball will make the ACC live for a very very longtime. Its short sighted for fsu to want to run. But if they want to leave bye.

Sure, the ACC will live...but thrive? Nope. And don't kid yourself, you guys will be jumping ship too if given the chance.
