Florida State officials announced Wednesday that Savannah State will replace West Virginia on the 2012 home schedule.

Quote from Lee Daniel, the Executive Director of Visit Tallahassee.

"On behalf of the hospitality industry, we understand the difficult position FSU was in trying to replace West Virginia at this very late date and certainly appreciate the efforts to keep a seventh home game.  According to Bonn Marketing Research, the direct economic impact of a FSU home game can range anywhere from $1 million to $10 million depending on the opponent and time of the game.  This impact is certainly significant and important to our hotels, restaurants, retail establishments and other businesses."

  • So I think the ENTIRE roster might see playing time in that game...

  • Awww man. I heard the Baltimore Ravens have an opening that weekend. ANYONE, ANYWHERE, BABY!!

Also, let it be known I intend to punish the university passive-agressively for this game with WVU getting cancelled through no fault of FSU.

Stupid question...will we play at their place in 2013 as originally planned?

Good question. It would be great for a one time neutral site game with a big time program

  • I watched the Spetman video and didn't like some of the things he said. How is a good road game against a quality opponent WORSE that playing Savannah State? That would be so much better then playing another pansy! As far as pansies goes, I think FAMU would have been a better and less expensive pansy fit than Savannah State. Good relationship? Huh? WTF?

Then he said FSU told the fans there would be 7 home games. Oh well, we'll get over it. Scheduling that crappy game as the 7th game won't put more butts in seats. Look at it this way: He said scheduling a quality opponent would have had to be a home and home commitment. Ok, That would be great! I'd rather have only 6 home games next year and have both a quality home game in 2012 and a quality road game in 2013. Then we could dump WVU and still have a fantastic schedule to be proud of.

  • I agree with your points ... but this is as much a financial decision as anything.

FSU needs to sell season tickets. With West Virginia out of the picture, revenue is going down from ticket sales. So any game helps the bottom line as far as athletic department revenue.

And the Tallahassee area needs the home game. The local economy gets a boost only from tourism related to football along with the business travel of the Florida Legislature.

I'd love for FSU to be playing anyone better than Savannah State, but this was a tough call that Spetman, Bonasorte and Fisher had to make.

It's about money. We wouldn't make any by going on the road. It's also pretty irresponsible for our athletic budget and the local community to not have that 7th game.
