FSU is aquiring Civic Center

  • As does your post, great points. Given the current economy and FSU's state of affairs, I hope our BOT and athletic department were as critical about the operating costs as you are. I also hope they have plans to utilize the facility more and are looking for potential revenue streams.

FSU has gotten a pretty amazing amount of musical talent to come to Club Downunder and The Moon on shoestring budgets. If we can do the same the with the Civic Center, we may be able to make a decent bit of money yearly. Promotional and management costs are heavily reduced because FSU students do it for free. I'd put my money on their talent and knowledge over whoever was doing it for Tallahassee anyways. If we can even get 1 or 2 decent acts a month, that should be money in the bank. Tally is in a great location for this too. You have a huge amount of college students and a lot of diversity. You can sell the facility out for country, rap, and rock.

Nash, how much can we expect to bring in concessions and beer revenue?

    Thanks for the words.

Volunteers may not work off-campus, as Insurance stipulations could obviate that.

Regarding concessions and beer sales - who knows? There are computer formulas out there, that can factor the average expenditure per fan, and then if one takes that as a multiplier on the number of attendees per year, then one can come up with a pretty good guesstimate. Minimizing costs AND theft (concessions is one of the easiest targets for light fingers to run through), will of course be factors. Many facilities just farm that out to outside vendors through competitive bidding, taking a percentage of gross sales and/or a retainer for allowing them the privilege to sell within the confines. Either way it's a good revenue stream if handled and managed right.
