FSU has set much of football non-conference sched. through 2015

  • TALLAHASSEE — Florida State football fans anxious to start planning their next four Septembers — and one November — can now do so. The Seminoles have wrapped up all but one of their non-conference games through the 2015 season.

In response to a Freedom of Information request, FSU recently released to the Orlando Sentinel signed game contracts for each of its non-conference games for the next four seasons. FCS programs Wofford, Texas State, The Citadel and Tennessee-Chattanooga highlight the upcoming games on the Seminoles' future non-conference radar.

  • Lord knows that FSU can't prepare for these titans of college football without an IPF...

Now Spetman needs to learn how the SEC shoehorns these cupcake classics into November the week before a rivalry game.

FSU Football. Making cool the new swag since 2013.

  • Some people think all of these games are terrible and maybe they are, but in reality, every school plays 1 D1-AA school every season, so it is not really abnormal or a surprise. Texas State is actually going to be a Sun Belt team by the time we play them, so they are not a 1-AA school. Also, I really really like playing UTC the week before UF. UF always schedules 1-AA schools or lower level Sun Belt opponents the week before playing us and I really think we should do the same. What is the point in UF getting essentially 2 weeks to prepare for us while we are playing a road ACC game the prior week. Anyway, these games are fine with me, as long as we aren't scheduling multiple 1-AA teams per season like we did this year, which is WVU's fault, not ours. Unfortunately, there is nothing we could really do about that.

    OOC schedule...
    2013 - UF, Wofford, Nevada
    2014 - UF, The Citadel
2015 - UF, Texas State, UTC

I am assuming this means going to 9-game ACC schedules. That works for me seeing as scheduling an extra game is not only a pain in the ass, but always costs us money.

Assuming we stay in the ACC, our OOC schedules from here on out should always be: UF, 1-AA team, and 1 more "mid-major" type opponent. People may not like it, but with them instituting a 4-team playoff, there is no point in ever trying to schedule Texas, Michigan, USC, Bama in the non-conference. Just play UF and crappy teams in the OOC, win the ACC and hope you can go 12-1 or 13-0, that by default puts you in the 4-team playoff.

The UTC game is 11/21, the week before UF. The others are in September. You are correct though. 3 OOC games. 1 is UF. 1 should be Week 1, the other should be the week before UF. Any other way of scheduling is stupid, IMO. No point in scheduling two crap teams back to back weeks. It does nothing as far as letting players get back from injuries or giving yourself an extra week to prepare for a more difficult opponent.

  • Weak sauce.

Too bad those schools don't have good basketball programs or those would be conference games.

Unfortunately, that doesn't put us in the playoff by default. There is no "default" yet. We'll have a much better chance if only conference champions make the playoff.

But, even a 1 loss (or maybe undefeated) FSU team could get left out if it's simply the top 4 teams according to RPI. Given the perception of the weakness of the ACC, a 1 loss FSU might not out weigh the top two SEC teams, Big 10 champ, Pac 12 champ, or Big 12 champ.

It could be a huge uphill battle. FSU may no longer get the benefit of the doubt if they aren't strictly undefeated.

Exactly. This is smart scheduling - for an SEC team. For us, we can't use a tough conference as an excuse. If we're staying in this crap/suck conference we'll have no choice but to actually (gasp!) schedule a decent team along with UF and an OOC cupcake.

Those games look much better fitting them into a Big 12 schedule. In the ACC it just looks like pure cowardice.

Agreed I was about to call BS on that comment too.... Every team DOES NOT play a 1-AA team, that's an asenine comment.

I do not recall ND ever scheduling a 1-aa team.
