FSU football to play home-and-home with Boise State

  • FSU sports information
FSU And Boise State Agree To Football Series
Seminoles and Broncos will play a home-and-home series in 2019 and 2020.

Tallahassee, Fla. – Florida State and Boise State will play a home-and-home football series set for 2019 and 2020 the schools announced on Monday. This will be the first-ever meetings between the football programs and the games are scheduled to be played September 7, 2019 in Tallahassee and September 12, 2020 in Boise, Idaho.

“We are very excited to add Boise State to our future football schedule,” said Florida State Director of Athletics Randy Spetman. “Boise State has an excellent football program and we feel this will be an out of conference game that will be exciting for fans of both schools and appealing to TV networks.

“Adding the Broncos to our football schedule continues our commitment to bringing top quality opponents to Doak Campbell Stadium. With our neutral site game versus Oklahoma State in 2014, the addition of Pitt and Syracuse to the ACC and now this series, we feel we are putting our football program in the best possible position to compete in the new BCS beginning in 2014.”

Boise State has been one of the most successful BCS football programs over the last 11 seasons. The Broncos have finished in the top-20 of the Associated Press poll nine times during that span and won nine conference titles since 2002. Over that nine-year period the Broncos have produced a record of 129-15 (.896), appeared in 11 consecutive bowl games and won seven of those postseason contests.

Current Boise State head coach Chris Petersen is 84-8 since taking over the Boise State program in 2006.

  • Boise is a great town and has cheap flights out of Orlando ($250). I've visited the last 2 winters to ski with a friend. If you're an outdoors person, you're in for a treat (hiking, rafting, biking, fly fishing etc.). They have a lot of great bars down town too. It's much, much bigger downtown than Tallahassee.

If you like food and beer, it's heaven. They have IPAs out the rear and very fresh, mostly local/non-chain food.

They stadium is quite nice. They've just added to the stadium and have plans to add many more seats between now and our scheduled game. They are currently building a recruiting lounge/athletic center that overhangs the endzone. They have a great basketball arena and an IPF.

Boise State University and two-time national football champion Florida State University will play a home-and-home series beginning in 2019, the schools announced today.

The first game will be played Sept. 7, 2019 on Bobby Bowden Field at Doak S. Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla., with the Seminoles coming to Bronco Stadium, Sept. 12, 2020.

Both schools will exchange a guarantee of $400,000.

This is the second time in the past week Boise State has announced a home-and-home series with an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) team. Last Monday (Feb. 25) the Broncos announced a two-game series with the University of Virginia.

"Scheduling a home-and-home series against a perennial top-25 program like Florida State is another step in growing our football program," Boise State Director of Athletics Mark Coyle stated. "Florida State is a team fans talk about when discussing the top collegiate programs in the country and I know Bronco Nation will be excited about hosting a team like Seminoles in Boise."

Florida State completed the 2012 season with an overall record of 12-2, including a 31-10 victory over Northern Illinois in the Discover Orange Bowl. In the final 2012 polls, FSU was ranked No. 8 by USA Today, No. 10 by the Associated Press and No. 12 in the Bowl Championship Series Standings.

The Seminoles have made 31-consecutive post-season bowl appearances (the longest in the nation), won 13 ACC Championships and captured national championships in 1993 and 1999.

The Broncos are coming off of an 11-2 season in 2012, which included a tie for the Mountain West Conference Championship and a 28-26 win over Washington in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas.

Boise State finished the 2012 season ranked No. 14 in the USA Today Coaches' Poll, No. 18 in the Associated Press Poll and No. 19 in the final BCS Standings.

The Broncos have the best record in college football since 1997 with an overall mark of 168-35 (.828), and the best home winning percentage since 2000 with a 79-4 record (.952).

Ahh the Noles on the Smurf turf. But more importantly the Broncos surrounded by 83,000 war chanting Noles. Good stuff. Wish it was sooner than 2019 though. chop

  • I have a sneaking suspicion Boise St is freaking terrible by then.

    fsufsu

  • I think this is a good move. Boise is a very solid opponent but probably won't be better than us, and it's a unique road trip opportunity for 'Noles fans. We need to schedule a similar program to fill our remaining openings for 2015-2018.

Speaking of 2015, there was a rumor going around last fall that we were going to play Southern Miss in New Orleans. Haven't heard anything about that in a while. Anyone know anything?

  • Kudos to both schools

    Keith Niebuhr

  • Seems fairly pointless. Doesn't give us an opportunity to play in front of a good recruiting area, it's very far for our fan base for a weekend trip, and FSU shouldn't have to go play in Boise despite their nice little run recently.

I'd much rather have home and home with teams from the southeast or even Texas schools. Better match ups, gets us in front of good recruits and much easier for fans to travel to.

    Poor decision by Spetman.

Every point I made is accurate!

  • I didn't down-vote you, that was another being. Fans want higher profile matches, well here you go. Spetman can do no right with this fan base.

. Spetman can do no right with this fan base.

Spetman has been here during the golden years of FSU overall athletics imo. We have been killing it the past few years in every sport. Now he might not be responsible for a lot of it, but he is the reigning AD while it has happened under his watch. Kudos to him.
