"FSU fans complain too much"

Considering they are friends of yours, those responses are not surprising.

    Underrated post.

Try to take of the fan goggles and realize.... this is how the rest of the universe views FSU's football and Jimbo.

Like I said last night, in 7 games this season, we took a Dodge Viper and barely managed to beat a Honda Civic by a tenth of a second...in a mile long race...

Don't throw people under the bus for having more forsight than you. This isn't just a small handful of fans willing to stand up and face the wrath they receive when they go against the "group think" on the board...

There is a small army of analysts mocking us behind our backs, because we are underacheiving CONSTANTLY.

Florida State beats NIU in Orange Bowl, but doesn't impress - College Football - Pete Thamel - SI.com

MIAMI -- Nothing is ever easy for the Florida State football team. It's the toddler who throws a blood-curdling tantrum every night before bed, the tropical vacation that rains every day and has the flight get marooned on the tarmac before takeoff.

  • Furthermore, not all 31-10 are equal.

You can be up 28-points at half time...and coast the rest of the way...

Or you can be up 7 late in the third quarter... when the other team kicks an onside kick (that is painfully obvious) and starts driving for the game-tieing touchdown.

When Corso/Herbstreit (and a small army of other analysts) are mocking you, picking against you on national TV, and calling out your coach for his decision making/game management....put your fan goggles down and follow Occam's razor

The rest of the world isn't Pete Thamel.

Pete Thamel predicted FSU to win 31-11 and he also compared Jordan Lynch to Donovan McNabb, only to criticize him in his team after the loss. He also complained about a "media member" congratulating Lonnie Pryor in the microphone after the game.

I had 3 fans (UF, UGA and auburn) tell me they would have broken their TV's (all said that unsolicited) if their team cared enough to show up but lost focus repeatedly in the red zone and let NIU hang around.

One friend who is a USC sr fan said, at least FSU cared enough to show up for the team dinner.

Hatian, I would submit in our conference with this schedule 12 wins is not asking too much.

we are not complaining we aren't winning the SEc every year and if we were in a real conference we would have been 8-4 or 7-5 this year while having arguably as much talent as anyone else in the country.

however, I think a lot of you are missing the point: do we see progress? That isn't just wins and losses. it is also

1.does this team show a killer instinct-last night, the answer was no-yet again.

    2. does the offense continue to look like charlie foxtrot in 3rd down and in the red zone-the answer is yes, again.

    3. did Jimbo refuse to pick the low hanging fruit again? arguably, yes when the dl is 240 across the front. At least matt Millen thought so. however, that is a debatable point.

    4. as good as this defense is (and it is very good) does it let up whne teams are on the ropes-yes. we saw it when NIU drove down the field when we were up 17-3. Gt, Vt, arguably USF, etc.

however, #4 is a very minor point campared to 1-3.

I am not listing individual players because an individual player is actually minor in this overall proces.

Point 1 and 4 are the same. So how is it not as important?

C'mon man. That is the worst written article that I have seen in a long time. It is full of inaccuracies. I agree with you on some of your assessments, but this is a bit of a reach.

  • I'm kind of a perfectionist. That extends to my football fanhood, unfortunately, although I have no control over what happens with our team. Can't speak for other fans, but I think that's why I get so frustrated. I see things that are mistakes and it annoys me, even if we win.

  • If I post you 500 articles written by 500 different professional analysts who give their opinion on sports for a living... and 99% of them said FSU was underacheiving with their talent... and likely will not win a championship due to Jimbo's inabilities.

Some of you guys would dismiss every single one of them... because it goes against what you WANT to happen. What you WANT to believe.

  • Haven't been able to read the whole thread, but the UF fan base is much, much worse than ours when it comes to whining. They haven't been AS bad this year because it is a better than expected year, but they have been downright awful ever since Timmy left. Heck they ran Urban Meyer off after he wom them 2x more national titles in a few years than they had in their entire history.

Peter Thamel is an idiot. Corso and Herbstreit are employed to drive up ratings and they did their job. Please do not mistake ESPN hacks for independent journalists or analysts. For you to do that shows nothing but an unrestrained attempt to ridicule FSU football at all costs. Your "high ceiling" comments show that you live in a world of fantasy, where the results of today do not mean anything because the tomorrow potential of other athletes should have been given preference.

Your little examples are irritating because a game is played over 4 quarters, and although the media darling had to pull out all stops and caught our guys by surprise (even if they shouldn't have), they didn't have what it takes to win. FSU played well enough to win by 21 points against the number 15 ranked team in the country. I know, that ranking is a joke, but these are the same media pundits who defended FSU's BCS status becasue the numbers are the numbers. If I recall correctly, you were of the ones who ridiculed the SOS.

Here are your numbers numbskulls: 12-2, 2012 ACC Champs, 2013 Orange Bowl champs.

    Suck it.

  • Flaw in your logic: There aren't 500 articles doing so.

Everyone knows we play down to our competition. A win is all that maters.

I like your argument style. You just invent hypotheticals, then act as if they are factual and use them to support your arguments.

    Let me try.

If we win every game we ever play from now on, but only do so by one point, you and others like you will complain incessantly and call for the coaches to be fired. Even though we would be undefeated forever. Therefore, you are being a pleasureless cynic that cannot ever be satisfied and that sucks the general joy out of a passionate hobby.

  • We won't be sucking much at all sir, I disagree. I bet you a Texas sized steak with a massive baked potato with a heaping load of real bacon bits, sout cream, and freshly chopped chives. Pessimists abide but fail to relaize for what we lose, others will lose just as much. Kids develop, mature, light goes on etc. etc. When your cupboard is full of talent, you tend to fit the pieces and keep on winning. Bobby Bowden insisted we were on player away from being back. Jimbo, for all his faults, has stocked this roster, and my bet is that our recruiting class will finish with a bang.

Oh, and I want a pitcher of suds too. We good?

I withdrew my financial support (Booster and Season Ticket Holder) and wrote a letter to the board of trustees.

I have posted here throughout the season, trying to help more casual fans understand that the evidence against Jimbo as OC is damning....

And if you go back and look at my assessments from day-1 and compare them to either Cuths or yours... you will see not all judgement is created equal.

I have never stated I think Jimbo should be fired. I stated I think he should be FORCED to bring in an OC... and that we would be heading nowhere until he did.

  • I have spent a fortune paying off every college football analyst to print my words under their name...

I would have thought that every pundit writing the same thing would give the posters who are complaining about who they perceive as the complainers pause-at least to say we can agree to disagree as oppose to attack us but i guess you are are not paranoid if you think the whole world really is against you.

The press wanted nothing more than for us to win 62-10. Then the pundits could all say in unison "See, we told you NIU did not belong and don't ever invite a team like this to the clubhouse ever again."

we did not give them that. What the narrative is now is primarily david was only down one score to Goliath after 3 quarters. despite that, it was clear David did not belong. a tougher narrative to sell to casual or non college football fan.

As to not being satsified about last night,

the chance for stasifaction ended as soon as NIU was picked for the orange Bowl. This game had more in common with playing wake hell, even Murray st. Yes, NIU is better than Murray st and a bit better than Wake. (FWIW, I do not think they were better than Duke) than a normal bowl game.

That is why i viewed this as a "Let's see if we make any progress in the process" game. I did not view uscjr as that type of game. I did not view ND last year as that type of game.

So we were not playing a worthy bowl opponent. Not our fault but was the reality of the situation nonetheless.

I submit the perception of the win is colored by whether you think we had a worthy opponent last night or whehter you even think it matters.

to me, we did not and it does.

You withdrew your booster contributions and cancelled your season tickets after a 12 win season in which we won the conference and a BCS bowl?

Then, I suppose a "good riddance" is in order.

As Jimbo said, I am happy, but not satisfied. Some people can never be either.

No -- I withdrew my support when Josh posted that he's confident that Jimbo will retain playcalling duties next year. And when atgreek confirmed the Coley/Fisher dynamic.

In my letter to the BOT, I stated the reason I withdrew, and that my future contributions were depenedent on Jimbo making a wiser choice for OC.

  • Cuth,

i suspect you were one of 2 people (Ann bowden being the other) that thought all was A OK after heggins was fired and bobby had announced he has fixed the problem. Because you are quoting jimbo now we can assume you were quoting bobby back then.

correct? relying on a coach that wants to stay employed (any coach) to give an accurate assessment publicly of the state of the program? I guess i am just a cynic to think their in public assessment should be taken with a grain of salt.
