"FSU fans complain too much"

  • I heard this from a few fans (friends of mine) of different schools (Auburn and UF) last night. Believe it or not, they saw a dominating performance while we saw a slop-fest.

"FSU fans just never seem satisfied unless its early September or watching Chris Weinke."

Whether I agree with it or not, I thought it was an interesting perspective.

  • Its absolutely true, FSU fans have taken the art of bitching to a whole new level.

  • I completely agree. Fans can want to see perfection, but that isnt likely to occur. Look for that and want it, but enjoy a 21 point win (in the orange bowl nonetheless).

  • If you take the message boards as your sample size it's close to true. Hell Bud Elliot on tomahawk nation called FSU "the most spoiled fan base in all of college football", and he runs an FSU site...

All games are important, if you don't think so try losing one and see how people act.-B.Bowden

  • It's frustrating as a fan to watch us completely dominate a game, but yet fail to put the game away. It's particularly frustrating because we have been burned multiple times by allowing inferior teams to hang around and gain confidence. There is no way that should have been a 7 point game going into the 4th. I'm happy with the season as a whole, but the problem of playing to the level of the competition has to be addressed.

I pointed that out. The response: Louisiana Lafayette, Jacksonville State, Bowling Green.

  • Its absolutely true. Sometimes, even after a win, i know i need to stay away from message boards.

  • We do have a lot of pvssies a$$ fans. It doesn't matter what the team does they are never satisfied. They act like winning BCS bowls and 12 games is par for the course here..

Lol touché. Our fan base has to endure those type games on a yearly basis though and we always find away to lose at least one of them.

How do you both "completely dominate a game" and play to the level of your competition. You mean we didn't score enough points for your liking in the first half? NIU was never in that game, despite the score.

  • We do complain too much. That might not have been a perfect game, but it was pretty impressive IMO. 500+ yards of offense, held Jordan Lynch in check, and won by 3TDs going away. In a BCS game, no less. There isn't anyone I've talked to who thought we struggled at all, other than message board posters. It was easily the best we've played since UMD, and it gives us a huge momentum boost going into the offseason.

My point was we dominate between the 20 yard lines but don't put the points on the board to put these games away early. When you allow these teams to hang around like that all it takes is one blown coverage or fluke play and they most certainly are in the game. My post wasn't solely focused on last nights game either, we did the same thing with NC State and GA Tech.

  • EJ was one of the most efficient passers in the country, even with all of the drops. Every QB misses easy throws. The difference is you watch EJ every week so you see all of his misses. Numbers do not lie and his numbers say he was one of the most efficient.
These are 18-22 year old young men. They perform at a very high level. Do they have more talent than other teams, yes. No team performs perfectly every snap. The difference between winning and losing many times is that when one team makes a mistake the other team executes perfectly. The next snap may be the opposite but it only takes one or two of those for a game to be won or lost.
Be happy we won 12 games, an ACC Championship, and a BCS Bowl Game. After all, you could be an Auburn fan. They would love to have had our year.

  • The reason our yards never match our points and the reason our offense sputters is because we are terrible in the redzone and on 3rd down. Playcalling, execution etc. goes out the window for some reason.

    fsukum

  • I had 3 fans (UF, UGA and auburn) tell me they would have broken their TV's (all said that unsolicited) if their team cared enough to show up but lost focus repeatedly in the red zone and let NIU hang around.

One friend who is a USC sr fan said, at least FSU cared enough to show up for the team dinner.

Hatian, I would submit in our conference with this schedule 12 wins is not asking too much.

we are not complaining we aren't winning the SEc every year and if we were in a real conference we would have been 8-4 or 7-5 this year while having arguably as much talent as anyone else in the country.

however, I think a lot of you are missing the point: do we see progress? That isn't just wins and losses. it is also

1.does this team show a killer instinct-last night, the answer was no-yet again.

    2. does the offense continue to look like charlie foxtrot in 3rd down and in the red zone-the answer is yes, again.

    3. did Jimbo refuse to pick the low hanging fruit again? arguably, yes when the dl is 240 across the front. At least matt Millen thought so. however, that is a debatable point.

    4. as good as this defense is (and it is very good) does it let up whne teams are on the ropes-yes. we saw it when NIU drove down the field when we were up 17-3. Gt, Vt, arguably USF, etc.

however, #4 is a very minor point campared to 1-3.

I am not listing individual players because an individual player is actually minor in this overall proces.
