Florida State dropped their first game of the season on Friday to FIU.

  • Knew this series might be rough with these young arms.

  • Still some positives to be taken.

Holtmann looked MUCH better for one. Brandon Johnson looked good, too. Gage Smith wasn't sharp, but all three guys got meaningful experience.

  • I agree. Holtmann was terrible last week. The coaches gave him another opportunity and he apparently pitched much better.

Leibrandt wssnt great today, but he was solid last week. Holtmann showed us what another week and another appearence can do.

Inconsistency should be expected. Hopefully this experience pays off later in the year.

  • Get these young pitchers as much meaningful innings as possible. Our offense will have to carry us this year, and they can't strand as many runners as they did tonight. We will be fine in the long run, looking forward to this young staff maturing and next year's staff coming in.

  • I'm not happy with the loss, but its only 1 game. If we turn it around today & tomorrow, I will be fine with winning the series. We cannot afford to lose this series or the confidence this team has will evaporate.

Freshmen pitching is going to be inconsistant, if they can get some consistancy by the time ACC play comes we will be fine. Batting is what was dissapointing. It wasn't as obvious last week because we won, but we stranded a lot of guys last weekend as well. 15 last night is NOT good! We will not win many games with that type of offensive production.

That right there is what has me excited about this season, assuming they keep it up. We've got a lot of pitchers on the roster, during this part of the season we should be seeing how they do, and not judging on a sample size of one appearance. The lumps we take now, especially with the freshman, should pay dividends in the future.
