  • One thing about Hamilton is he is never ever able to develop players on a consistent yearly basis. He knew that this will be a down year and signs "Project big men" which will never help develop the team. I am so pissed.

The only quotes anyone wants to read are Ham's comments where he either says, "I'm retiring," or "I've been fired."

Last year, while absolutely incredible to experience, was a complete fluke and has unfortunately doomed us to as many more years of this that Ham wants to subject us to. We'll never get rid of him, so he's here until he retires.

I'll now light myself on fire.

  • Meh. This team doesn't seem much different than the last 4 or so, our record just seems to match our talent and play more closely this year than the last few.

  • Team will lurk around .500 for the season. I don't see them turning a corner and finding any consistency. They will have good outings and they will have bad outings. Today was about as bad as it gets.

Defense has always been the backbone and this year's team is so mediocre in the department. I expected the offense to perform far better, from a consistency department, than it has this season. They showed flashes in New York and other outings, but it has also disappeared at times and today was simply abysmal.

The inside game is just poor and if Shannon is out for an extended period of time they are in deep, deep trouble in the paint. Bojanovsky gives great effort but brings no physicality. Turpin swats a shot here and there, but his presence for defense and rebounds is lacking. Ojo isn't ready to contribute in any manner.

At guard, Ian Miller's contribution is minimal. I have my doubts he is healthy. I'd like to see an increased role for Aaron Thomas (scoring ability) and Devon Bookert (vision at point).

  • As much as Leonard Hamilton should be roasted over coals (speaking of coals I wouldn't mind a Stacey Coley update, wrong thread), how much does a big loss of experience in the front court contribute to what's been happening?

I'm a casual observer but how potent are we up front unless Okaro White is flying around like a maniac in college park?

Nobody filled the role or leadership of Bernard James, without a doubt.

    Any word on Shannon?

Per Corey Clark from TDO.com ‏(@Corey_Clark): Just talked to FSU team doctor, Bill Thompson. He said Shannon has a neck sprain and has improved dramatically in last 2 hours.

  • This was Hamilton's quote on Shannon after the game:

“I can’t really tell you anything about Terrance right now, but we do know that when he was going down he hit his head on a player’s thigh I believe," Hamilton said. "He had a, I guess what you call in football, a stinger; I still don’t really know what that is. He had an issue about three or four weeks ago when his neck got twisted so it’s unfortunate. They said he was moving his extremities."

  • We have no legit bigs.

    We have no legit bigs.

Shannon is a big but he's not a legit rim protector and that's what this team needs.

The only one with any promise for the future is Boris. He just needs to get stronger. The zeller kid from unc was very similar as a freshman and he made himself into an aa by working hard. Boris could get there. Ojo has no hands. I can't see him contributing anything more than Kreft did while he was here and that's fine so long as we don't need him to do anything more than that. Turpin is useless (on the basketball court for FSU, he's probably very useful other places). He's like Xavier Gibson but softer and without the skills.

If he knows it is going to be a down year, then why wouldn't this year be the year to sign some developmental big men? Hamilton mostly signs athletic but raw players that have a high ceiling but need a ton of work and time to get their games together. Unfortunately, there just happens to be a lot of guys early in their development on the team at one time. IMO, this is just going to be one of those years where they flash serious potential from time to time but also look terrible from time to time. Obviously I'd like them to still make the NCAA tourney, but even with some growing pains this year it is much easier to take given my feeling that there is going to be a payoff in the next couple seasons.

Mistake #1: Expecting a Hamilton-led offense to perform well and consistent. It's only happened once(?) his entire tenure at FSU (Thornton's senior year?).

  • Very embarrassing offense. Hamilton's lack of recruiting big time players the last few years, especially inside, is costing this team. Ugly loss.

    Crappy Davenpot

  • Meh. Very few teams don't have down years. We got our ass beat on the reg before Ham got here. Hell, look at UNC and UK.
