FSU better off without WVU game?

  • It has been an interesting topic already and probably will be until FSU loses next season: Does an undefeated FSU team, without WVU on the schedule, make it into a National Championship game over a one-loss SEC team? Do they need to replace WVU with a decent team or should they just load up another cupcake?

Personally, with the star-power that the FSU name possesses, I don't think there is any way the voters don't have them in the top two. An interesting discussion though. ESPN 760's Brian Rowitz and I talked about it on our podcast yesterday.

  • Any undefeated BCS team should make it in over a 1 loss SEC team. There shouldn't be a second though. An SEC on be loss team shouldn't be "handed" a BCS championship spot like everyone seems to give them in the preseason. First of all, we are assuming there will be a one loss team out of the conference and second of all, what if the conference is average outside of one team at the end of the year? Do they still get the media bias from past accomplishment?

This, I would even bet a undefeated Big East team would make it over a one loss SEC team. People need to seriously get off the SEC's nuts, I am sick and tired of hearing about them. Time for some other teams to step up.

Look at 2006 and 2011 as examples. UF wouldn't have gone to the championship in 2006 had USC beaten UCLA (and USC already had 1 loss). Alabama wouldn't have gone to the championship in 2011 had Ok State beaten Baylor (based on SOS and conference RPI, Ok St. should have gone anyways).

You mean had Ok state beaten Iowa State, but yes the point has already been made

  • Why create a harder gauntlet if you don't have to? We don't have to look far to find a perfect example of the danger of tough OOC games...read: last year. My question to you guys, would you feel better or worse about FSU if they had cupcake OOC's and were dominating the ACC and in the Orange Bowl with some consistency? This NC stuff is so random, it seems silly to try to plan it. I don't believe any NC claiber team consciously sets up a title run by scheduling hard OOC opponents. Simply set your team up for a double digit wins every year and win your conference. Just let the rest come to you.

  • Florida State was ranked Top 5 this year after losing a 3 year starting QB. 4 year Starting Guard and Center. If we go undefeated they will put us in the NC game. The fact that these questions have to be asked show that we have a terrible method of deciding our champion in D-1 CFB

  • FSU would have no trouble making it if we were undefeated. The nation loves to watch us on TV.

  • Of the last 10 BCS national title teams, only three teams had 2 BCS teams on their non conf. 7 only had 1.

FSU has two on their WITHOUT WVU.

Silly to even speculate on the topic. FSU would be in the title game.
