FSU being told to stand down....

  • I find it interesting the emotional response of the national media at even the thought of FSU daring to move to another conference. Much of this media has agendas. ESPN, SEC media, UF College of Journalism grads, SEC bloggers. All have been almost emotional at FSU having the gumption to bolt.

Often the war cry is FSU isn't worthy of moving to another conference. Or FSU is guilty of something. FSU should sit down and be happy to share the scraps at the ACC's table.

Why? Do they have FSU's best interest at heart? Are they threatened? Do they just wish to kill what little competition in their territory, is there a TV contract they are looking to protect?

Do these folks care if FSU faded away?

Somewhat ironic is much of these same media will in the same breath will preach about 'the big 4', the superiority of these other conferences, write articles on the huge financial differences, and actively run down the ACC.

There even seems to be a small, but active group of posters, FSU fans, across FSU's message boards working almost overtime to kill even the thought of reviewing FSU's situation. Some actively insult and attack those who suggest FSU might look at for it's interest first.

I get being loyal to a conference....the SEC has very loyal conference folks, but much like Dr. Barron's emotional rebuttal, there seems to be emotion and often incorrect facts used to shout down dissent or those wanting FSU to review it's situation.

I don't know where the truth is in this situation. Are the folks who suggest FSU should evaluate it's situation, the future of college football, financial payouts, etc really that radical? Extreme? Or off the wall to question things and have everything on the table?

I get it when a UF grad runs down FSU in an article, or ESPN talking heads claim the ACC signed a great contract, but even FSU fans who actively push for aggressively running down options instead of strategically evaluating them, it just is hard to understand the situation is in and the discussions being had on the topic.

Why is FSU wrong to look out for FSU? How many of the voices out there have a loyalty to FSU and not something else?

I just hope FSU has the guts to make the right decision for FSU and not be intimidated to do what it is told to do by outside voices and pressures.....whatever the decisions is.

  • To NOT look out for one's own self interest is the height of stupidity. In the real world that's the only true constant there is. All else is agenda driven wind from a monkey's backside.

  • I agree with you. Either ESPN changes the payment terms or FSU should go to the B12 and Fox.

The reason that I have is that; if the media does not have a status quo agenda for one reason or another, they are still mad about Bobby. See Tim Brando. These folks seem to think that we only think of ourselves and point to the Bobby decision as why.

  • That is why it is crazy if FSU does not look at options that will ultimately benefit FSU. The media does not care about FSU's best interests. That is being shown through the clear bias.

It's about the $$$$$$$. ESPN has a vested interest in FSU staying in the ACC.

  • Yeah, I could give a damn about who is telling us to stand down. As has been pointed out by many, if it is in our best interest to move to another conference, then we need to move. Usually the people who think we should stay have alternate reasons for wanting us to remain.

I found it extremely funny that the other day, while reading an article, that the writer said it was our fault because we didn't get rid of Bobby sooner and allowed him to drag down us and now the conference. I agree that we should have gotten rid of Bobby sooner, but I can guarantee that writer was probably writing or thinking the complete opposite when we did it. Media blasted us when it all went down, now all of a sudden some have changed their tune because they have finally seen the repercussions of our downward spiral.

  • In this day and age it's only news worthy if its negative. Anyone associated with the SEC has a superiority complex just anyways.

  • A couple of thoughts ive had. Writers know fsu is still nationally relevant, has a large national following and enough angry people will read their stuff. They are in the business to get readership(bud from TH) touches on this. Espn just entered into an agreement with the acc and knows fsu leaving will seriously and adversely effect how much that contract is worth. People who hate fsu dont want us to get it because it will significantly cut down on the negatives we have. Playing in a weak conference. Operating at significantly less financial resources. That scares the hell out some people who wonder what a fsu at full strength can accomplish if they are having a hard time against us as it is. People who cover the acc know if we leave, they will soon be unemployed

Bye bye Heather. Like that's a bad thing.

  • They said the same thing when we pushed Bobby out. We should have kept him as long as. He wanted to stay no matter how bad we sucked as a result.

    I. All fairness, A&M and Mizzou

    got the same treatment.

  • The guy that really gets on my nerves about this is Ed Cunningham on CFB Live. Everytime this comes up, his point of view is, so what if schools on other conferences make more money, that's life get over it. No, that's not life. Life is taking advantage of opportunities afforded to you. If you don't take advantage, you deserve what you get. Everytime he opens his mouth, it sounds like he was told by the higher ups at ESPN to say what a great deal the ACC just signed with ESPN. Just because it is a long term deal doesn't make it a great deal and doesn't make it the best deal you can find.

ESPN also has part of the Big 12 contract.

  • I see it the same way as I see the Bobby Bowden situation. Fans of the school wanted what was best for the school. Painful as it may be, a legend needed to be told to step aside. The national media was all up in arms about how he was being disrespected, and deserved more. Did they care about the Noles? Nope. Villains are more interesting than heroes, and make better stories too. UF fans and other ACC schools wanted him to coach forever because it was in thier best interest as well. FSU did what what was right for them and started winning more games (and is legitimately poised to win even more).

Now, the national media says we shouldn't be able to leave the ACC because we haven't "pulled our weight." villain angle again. UF and ACC schools don't want us to leave because we will be better funded (and the ACC less so). FSU must again be the bad guy for a minute to do what is best. Everything else will work itself out.
