  • We are struggling in every aspect of the game right now. I'm sure it doesn't help that we have played two talented teams the last two weeks. Hopefully they regain their form from a few weeks ago in time for regionals. NC State is still in contention for a national seed, so we will get their best shot these next two days.

  • losses tend to happen when you play teams with more talent

  • The team is playing poorly right now and it's not simply because of a step up in talent. The fielding and base running has hit a wall too.

We played a top-10 schedule going into last weekend and did very, very well.

it was in the low 30's heading in to the clemson series

    it's now at 27

  • I expected this.

Also, having one of the best pitchers in conference is directly related to a pitcher's ability to strand baserunners. It sucks that we couldn't capitalize earlier but let's not be gators and act like high LOB numbers are only due to our bad luck hitting and not their pitching ability on the hill tonight.

  • We leave a lot of people on base because we draw a lot of walks. That's been the case for years and its not a concern of mine. What is a concern is a loss odd fundamentals in the field and on the bases. The pitchers have been playing worse too. This isn't an observation from tonight. It started with the Maryland series. We are in a funk.

Could be a bad sign for the ACC championship and beyond or could just be an indication of loss of focus that will reverse itself when we hit post-season. This is a young team after all and this is not uncommon for young teams to lose focus especially at the end of the season playing good competition.
As long as they remain confident it should right itself, but if they start to doubt then there will be real issues.

  • I think its a case of the young players (namely pitchers) hitting the wall.... The HS season would be over by now for them and this is new territory for them

  • Great performance the last two days.

One thing to consider with the defense is that through the Miami series Justin Gonzalez committed 10 errors in around 40 games. Since his return from the injury in the Miami series he has committed 7 errors in 8 games.

I would sit him this entire week if there was a chance he could be fully healed by Regionals.

Those are interesting numbers, and I agree, we need him to be fully healthy. I wish they would have sat him until he was 100%.

Interesting. I agree with that. I saw it mentioned on SBOMB that Amaral may be off of the postseason roster. Will he be back ont he roster next year if he is indeed cut from the postseason roster?

He's out with an injury. He hasn't been "cut" from anything. No reason to put him on the postseason roster if he isn't available to play in the postseason.

  • Allow me to clarify. If he is left off of the post season roster, can/will he still be apart of the team next year?

    fsukum

  • Amaral can be on the roster next year

There year's postseason roster has no impact on next year's regular season roster.

  • Great, thanks LuLu1 and bbnole33.
