  • No Derrick Mitchell?? Interesting.

Very interesting that Chris Thompson will in fact return. I will be cheering hard for my favorite player to stay healthy and make some memorable plays to end his career.

Yes. Jimbo makin' strategic moves to strengthen areas of concern. The man has his head on straight, and look out 2012 opponents.

Is it time for the spring game yet?

What ever happened to mat drills - 4th quarter drills as they may be called now?

  • Mixed feelings but I will obviously take a wait and see approach.

If Cam can't nail down a starting tackle spot it's pretty much a waste. He was turning into a monster DT and was basically a starter. I'd hate to see him get lost in the shuffle on offense.

Hicks to TE gives MEjr a clear path for playing time. Hopefully this is an indicator that Jimbo actually plans to use TEs this year. I liked Hicks as a power end and 2013 could get dicey at DE if Bjoern leaves early, which I think he will. I hope Hicks doesn't stray too far from defense and is relegated to short yardage/goalline duties.

Best of luck to Will Secord and Holmes. And great news about CT!

Cam will not be hurt by trying OT for the spring. He also earns a lot of status equity with Jimbo for trying to help the team. If OT doesn't work out they'll move him back to DT and he'll be fine. We have Jernigan and 3-4 Srs this year. It's the perfect time for an experiment.

  • so now we have only 6 DE?

    werner
    jenkins

    carradine
    stevens
    edwards
    casher?

    And Newberry

Will Secord try to play out eligibility somewhere else? Good luck to him and Holmes either way.

Moody was relatively quiet last year, hopefully the move allows him to focus on what he does best and assist on the run.

Likewise glad Los is staying put

Looking forward to Cam on OL

    Bring on Spring!

That's not really that bad...not great, not bad. The real glaring weakness is speed rusher. We only have one proven guy there. Whereas Carradine has also proven himself behind Werner. I wonder if Tank and Werner will be on the field at the same time in certain situations (3rd down with short yardage, goalline ,etc.).

  • Lot's of questions answered there. I've been on the Moody to LB bandwagon since his soph year. Good luck to Secord, he did what was asked of him. Has to be a good sign that Thompson is number shopping. Tells me he expects to be on the field.

I think we might see some 3 man fronts this year like we flashed last year. 6 DEs (Still not counting on Stevens) is not great but its fine

    1st team
    Werner, Jenkins

    2nd Team
    Carradine, Edwards Jr

    3rd team
    Newberry, Casher

I really dont think thats a bad 3 deep. If someone gets hurt in spring or summer I think Hicks could easily move back. I think Jimbo wants Oleary at slot WR moreso than TE and he needs a TE who can block who isnt a true freshman.

  • "If Cam can't nail down a starting tackle spot it's pretty much a waste."

FSU is 5 deep at DT and has ZERO backup Tackles without Cam because FSU has nothing but Guards on the rooster.

Nothing about this move is a waste. You need starters and depth. Or we can have a season like last year where FSU lost an entire season because lack of bodies, depth, and talent at the OL spot.

Honestly, this didn't go far enough, should of moved Mitchell to OT as well.

  • please god no on the 3 man fronts

I agree and upvote for you.

Cam just looked so potentially dominating as a redshirt frosh (!) I almost hate the idea of mucking with his progress, regardless of who's idea it is. Now, he does have the frame and attitude to be a killer OT. I think he can succeed there. But on the off chance he shows just enough to stay on offense but not enough to start, I can't help but feel like he'd be better served on defense.

As far as the interior DL goes, no question we have the numbers to not be affected too much by the move. But Cam was stealing significant snaps from upperclassmen which speaks volumes I think.

It doesn't seem to me that Stoops' defense needs a speed rusher per se. And even if it does, Hicks really wasn't that guy. He seemed to me to be a real even guy 50/50 rush to pass. Bit slower than Jenkens, bit less strength than Werner

Jenkins is great, but we don't seem to be recruting a Brandon Jenkins type player any longer (225 to bulk up to 260 and keep their speed) MEJr's measurables are once in a lifetime, but I'd expect more Cashers and Werners as opposed to more Toshoman Stevens and Jenkens moving forward.

I love the six we have. And love Hicks for trying to help the team.
