I understand we will fill the spot with a crap team, but please lets not start the season with two 1-AA opponents. All we need is Murray State followed by Elon or some crap like that.

That's some chicken shat right there!! FSU will get the million buyout, but will have to spend about 500K getting a walk over this late in the game, not to mention next season.

It has nothing to do with being "chicken shat", its the fact that our B12 schedule doesn't have room for 4 out of conference games with 9 conference games. WVU cant cancel the Marshall game for political reasons, JMU at FedEx Field is too big of a cash cow & the MD game was just signed to an 8 yr extension. In the Big East where there is only 7 conference games, an extra OOC game is needed.

BTW the buyout is 500K, not 1 million.
The Orlando Sentinel learned Thursday afternoon, though, that if the Mountaineers drop the game, they will be on the hook for $500,000, per the game contract originally drafted in June 2005 and amended in May 2009.
According to the contract, a sum of $350,000 of liquidated damages would go to FSU if West Virginia backed out more than 12 months away from the date of the game. If the cancellation comes at any point inside those 12 months, the damages fee rises to $500,000.

FYI this is a good thing. Easier road to go undefeated and the current BCS format doesn't care about Strength of Schedule. Fully expect downvotes but I guarantee you Jimbo is happy and FYI FSU will schedule a cupcake...as they should.

I've heard this as well, but I don't think there's any way Jimbo would let that game happen. A home and home with them would cross Outzen off my bucket list though, no way I'd pass up an FSU @ Oregon game.

You're right, but there are other things to consider, like the fact that FSU will likely have to pay more than that $500K to get a replacement -- probably much more -- and will sell far fewer tickets.
The WVU game would have sold out easily, likely would've been a prime time game and would have been a very realistic choice for ESPN Gameday.
All of that = big time $$ and exposure for the school and program.

I hear you Tim..but an undefeated season and a spot in the title game far outweighs all the benefits of the WVU matchup. Listen I'm a season ticket holder and would have loved to see the matchup, but the OU game did severe damage to our season last year. I rather play UAB.

WVU is apparently paying the fine to get out of the Big East while Pitt and Syracuse is not.

I wanted to play WVU. I welcome BCS teams to Tally. I understand you might lose, but the OU game was an awesome experience this past year and I hope to have more like it. If we're going to get back where we want to be then we have to be able to play and win these games. LSU went into Morgantown and won this year, and they certainly didn't need to add a tough OOC game.
