Tallahassee, FL - Following Florida State's top five finish in the Learfield Director's Cup standings in 2010-11, the Seminoles are poised to make a another run at a top 10 finish in those standings this year. The Seminoles are currently No. 7 in the final standings following the winter sports season. FSU is also among the top 5 in women's athletics in the latest Capital One Cup standings.

Thanks to strong showings by the Seminoles' men's basketball team, both swimming and diving squads and track and field, FSU remains the highest ranking ACC school in the Learfield Director's Cup standings released Thursday morning. What makes FSU's winter performance so remarkable is the fact that of the 15 sports that can receive points, Florida State only fields teams in six of those 15.

With the nation's top-ranked baseball team, the ACC's first place softball team, both tennis and golf teams projected to reach NCAA Tournament play and a perennially, nationally competitive track and field program, Florida State will remain in the thick of the race for another top five finish in the Learfield Director's Cup, which would be the first time in FSU history the program finished with back-to-back top five finishes.

The success of the Seminoles' women's teams has the department sitting at number five in the Capital One Women's Cup standings. Postseason runs to the Final Four by both the soccer and volleyball teams in the fall has Florida State just behind Duke as one of only two ACC teams in the top five of the current standings. This is the first time in school history FSU had both its soccer and volleyball programs make the national semi-finals in the same season.
