FSU Athletics Revives Cimarron Character at Events

  • TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Seminoles.com) -- The Athletics Promotions and Marketing Office at Florida State University unveiled on Thursday the costume and logos associated with the revived character "Cimarron" that will be associated with Seminole athletic events.

Under the supervision of FSU's cheer and spirit groups, Cimarron will make appearances at many Florida State athletic events and functions.

In addition, the character will make public appearances and will be available for functions at area schools and service projects. Cimarron will also serve as the mascot of the Florida State University Kid's Club. Fans can find officially licensed products bearing Cimarron's likeness at retailers soon.

"Osceola and Renegade are revered and honored symbols of Florida State athletics as has been recognized by their recent selection as the best tradition in all of college football," said FSU Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Promotions Jason Dennard. "We treat our symbol with great honor and respect and they appear only at football games, Homecoming and Fan Day. Cimarron has been revived to give a promotional presence at other designated events.

"It also allows us to participate in some opportunities that were not appropriate for the distinguished symbol of Osceola and Renegade."

FSU commissioned the design and fabrication of Cimarron by Scollon Productions, Inc. in the fall of 2011.

Scollon has been the costume character designer and manufacturer of choice for many corporations world-wide including Warner Brothers, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and over 100 sports teams.

  • When was this guy around before? Seems odd to me

  • This is good. One of the ways to continue to build your fan base, is to do a lot of events that are community outreach, targeting especially youth organizations that may not have the funds - yet - to attend games. This character looks to be non-threatening, and could provide some indelible FSU brand inpression on kids and parents alike. Even little kids could enjoy this thing, who may otherwise be a bit afraid of a painted indian with a stern face, and a smelly animal about 3 times as tall as they are, who is liable to crap on their shoes.

  • I like it. It'll give little kids somebody to play with, without jeopardizing what we have with Chief Osceola and Renegade.

This. When did we used to use it? It's odd but I don't mind it. Just something for kids to play with. Although I would've preferred a Tarpon or Cracker mascot more than a donkey/pony. Those two were finalists that lost out to Seminoles 60 or so years ago.

I hated it when I saw it but now after reading your comment I completely agree with you. Well said.

  • I believe Cimarron made appearances in 2000, '01, '02, or somewhere in there just at basketball games.

This will certainly hurt our performance in the mascot basketball game during the ACC Tournament as the cheerleader always had an advantage by not having to wear a costume.

Armynole03's lady looks like a nice person although I still think she's setting him up for a rasslin' style neck breaker. He, however, is a stinkbutt of the lowest strata!
    I said it.
    I meant it.
    I'm here to represent it!

Here's a pic of him when the lady gets in high dudgeon!
