Expectations for EJ Manuel in 2012

  • It is reasonable to expect improvement and further maturing. Going into 2011 I hoped EJ could be a top 20-25 QB and then mature into a top 5-10 as a senior and I still feel those expectations are reasonable.

Jimbo is instituting a policy of randomly attacking players on the field with a baseball bat during spring practice.

Keeps the team on their toes.

Haha right...that was one of the more "interesting" posts of seen in a while SMH

  • At the end of the day though EJ is a stud. Expectations are... better OL play, consistency in the receiving core, a real running game, and finally a first day selection in the NFL draft for ol EJ.

I mean afterall we lost three games where he was injured and didn't fully play, and one game where he was out of rhythm and got no help from Jimbo, the Refs, the OL, and the run-game.

EJ will take care of business next fall, and there is no reason we aren't in the ACC championship with a legitimate shot at the orange bowl this year.

The fact that he leads FSU in career comp% and fans still question his ability to throw an accurate pass shows that expectations are always ridiculously high at FSU.

  • Granted we don't have a proven and such quality running back (yet) like Mark Ingram or Trent Richardson but our defense should mimic a defense like Alabama. Alabama had Julio Jones but we have more depth at the WR position and weapons at tight end.

Greg McElroy did nothing ground breaking for the Alabama offense but he was smart with the ball and made few mistakes. 20TD, 5 INT and 70.9% completion average. He was really smart too, scored a 48/50 on the Wonderlic. This past season for Bama a sophomore AJ McMarron played basically the same way McElroy did 16TD, 5 INT,66% completion average.

Basically 2012 success shouldn't rely on EJ's arm and decision making but another strong defense and an improved offensive line and a strong running game. Honestly, for the time EJ has been in the system he still makes some poor reads, is slow in decision making, tends to lock onto receivers and isn't always very accurate but I'm just an arm chair quarterback. He has the potential but I personally have not seen it consistently enough to trust him completely.

EJ has only made it through ONE spring practice since he has been here. In 2008 he red shirted. Spring 2009 he dislocated his finger. During the 2010 season, he had shoulder issues. In spring of 2010 he had shoulder surgery for the shoulder issues. He played in the spring of 2011. During the 2011 season, he injured his shoulder again. I don't think it is too farfetched to think injuries are a possibility.

I enjoyed your comedy though. Something about seeing Jimbo with a baseball bat chasing players just makes me giggle.

Please see above post. I should have explained myself better.

  • I'm not sure EJ has the accuracy/decision making skills needed for him to become elite.

I do agree that Jimbo does not help him a lot with the play calls sometimes, but some of it has to be put on the qb. I can't imagine Jimbo goes into a game thinking that he'll call certain plays he knows EJ can't handle or doesn't execute well.

Once again he leads FSU in career passing comp%. And we threw more deep balls this year than all three of Ponders years starting combined.

Interested in seeing what everyone's expectations are for EJ Manuel going into his final season in Florida State. He's been here five years now, and will be going into his second year as the starter in an offensive system that has a lot of expectations and demands...

I've been looking at all of coach Fisher's quarterbacks dating back to his LSU days, and noticed a trend among them (including Ponder too..). They all had so-so seasons, pretty decent, nothing that would get them nominated for any post-season lists. But in their final season in the program, or as the starter, they tend to explode and ball out.

I f he can stay healthy #1 and if he can play behind an OL that can protect him a lot better and run block #2, then he should have the opportunity to have a BIG year.

  • i think having the receiving corp that we have and have added to, with a big athletic offensive line with some experience, the sky is the limit for EJ. We will be one very explosive offense but will depend on Jimbo's play calling. I really wish he'd hire a co-coordinator to help with play calling and help recognize strengths and weaknesses of other defenses.
    2500-2800 yards passing 18-22 td's
    500 yards rushing 7-10 td's
    7 INT's
I look for more explosive running back play this year which takes away from EJ's numbers but makes the team more successful overall.

A dominating defense and an efficient offense and superb special teams is a championship recipe!!

Then your definition of 'enough time' is erroneous.

Did you pay your bet yet?

  • Jimbo expanding the playbook? Care to elaborate? First time I've heard this.
