ESPN and ACC announce extension

  • I got this earlier today, take it for what its worth,:

    "ACC just signed a huge new deal for around 17-18 mill a year per school. Nobody is leaving with that $. The Big Ten and SEC will get more (around 20) but the money is now close enough to where it wouldn't be worth it with the exit fees. Nobody was ever leaving to the Big 12, they are grasping for straws trying to save themselves. ACC is also in the best position to grab Notre Dame once the Big East splits and forces NDs hand, not to mention Delaney from the Big 10 is already saying you will have win your division in order to make the BCS, ND will need a conference to be included. At that point it is anyones guess who the ACC adds for their 16th (Rutgers?) but I'd expect another jump in revenue for them."

    Wrong. UF is getting $27 million a year (not 20) with the additional $10 million from their deal with CBS etc. Sounds like an uniformed opinion...

    you forgot to add that $17-18 Million is for Tier 1-3 rights total. That alone needs to be the force behind us leaving for the Big 12. We could get that much for Tier 1 alone if not more.

    Again you have to factor in the huge uptick in expenses, especially travel, for non-revenue sports. Everyone acts like moving to the B12 is going to fix the budget problem in the AD, and I just do not see it.

    Well sitting idly by while the monetary margin widens through 2026 isn't going to fix our budget either. If another conference can offer us a potential to make $10 million+ more, then we need to take that offer and take the initial monetary hit.

  • Lets also add salt to the OPEN wound and factor in that uf has its SS endowed and they raise a lot more money through the boosters than we do......

    The length of the contract AND lack of tier 3 revenue is a HORRIBLE deal for the ACC.

  • Everything I have read about the LHN is that it's a failure so far. It tore apart their conf. Only Texas fans will claim its good. Now that the acc pulled within 2 mil of the other conf it's now the LHN kind of deal that makes it a cash bonanza?

    None of these numbers make sense.

    We aren't within 2 million. Our entire contract is less than UF's tier one and tier two options. They are making $27 million a year in tv revenue before the SEC contracted is even renegotiated. We are making $17 million after renegotiations. The Big 12 offers as much as the SEC and the third tier option to earn more, like the $10 million extra UF gets from cbs and such.

    That's $150 million less over the next 15 years. We can't compete with that, especially with that being almost entirely profit for UF, while we're spending a bunch on scholarships.

  • Okay, I've seen where the ACC gave up all third tier rights and I've seen where it was just third tier rights for football. What is it?

    Why is our past revenue from third tier rights so low (as posted above), if there is so much money in it?

    While I'm not thrilled with this new deal, the fat lady hasn't begun to warm up yet...

    Whether it's "Football only" or not, doesn't matter about Teir3 rights. Football is what brings in all the revenue.

    If that wasn't the case, then the BigEast, who's been a monster Basketball conference for years, wouldn't get only like 3 million a year as their media contract.

    If FSU stays in the ACC and accepts this new deal, then they get $16 million a year, period. (It's reported as 17, but it's 16 because the ACC is unique in it takes money as if it was a school too).

    So 16 million.

    The SEC is about to sigh a contract that pays each team between 25 and 30 million a year, per school.
    On top of that, the schools keep their media rights, which pays Florida between 5 and 10 million (it's 10, but IMG Sports gets a cut).

    So FSU makes 16.
    UF will make 25+5 to 35 (depending on contract).

    It's not hard math to see the problem here. FSU is about to get owned.

    But hey, don't worry, we're flush with cash like some colleges.... oh wait.
    But hey, we've got this long history and huge historical base that gives a ton.... oh wait.

    Yeah.

    it is important to not just look at yearly figures, but to look at what we would leave on th table over the 14 years of the new acc contract. that is a lot of money. i do not see how fsu could walk away from that with a clear conscience.
