I can't believe the deal includes tier 3 rights and I can't believe FSU agreed to this racket.

Gobucs84 - I believe ESPN gets your Tier 3 rights under the new contract so the $7-8m difference you mentioned is too low and does not include the new BCS.

I believe that is what we make on coaches shows, radio rights, other media rights. I could be wrong with the correct number but I am pretty sure that is what it is.

This deal is great for the ACC if as long as your not one of the upper-producing football schools.

That's just reality.

The mid-level to smaller schools in the ACC aren't strong enough to get their own media rights, and to them, this is basically a $5 million dollar per-team buyout of media rights.

The problem is, you were making $12.7 mill before, and now you get about $5 more, but lock out any media rights what-so-ever for the next 15 years. That's good for the small teams, but the big ones holding up the conference in Football AND are trying to keep up with the arms-race, get totally screwed in the deal.

Do the numbers, it's not "rocket surgery".

Several have mentioned the additional $ we would get by moving to the Big12 but would there be additional expenses? Would our travel budget go up materially? Just wondering about the net gain.

Travel cost would jump a bit but nothing that would not allow us to leave....The amount of missed time for students would be up a little as travel West is not as convenient as travel up and down the East coast...We would also have a $20 million buyout from the ACC (minus what another conference would be willing to help with).

The new ACC deal is a BAD deal for us not only in money but the length of the contract which will put us even further behind 10+ years out.

Providing you have the extra seats to sell, a new conference could generate increased ticket sales which hopefully would offset any additional travel expenses.

I looked up the additional 2009 – 2010 broadcast, television, radio and internet rights or basically the third tier rights for some of the Big 12 teams, and Florida State. This is in addition to the conference contract and not shared.

Acc covered tobacco road and bball with this deal. They need to merge witht the big east and make a power bball conference and we need to kick rocks somewhere else.

For me it was hard to understand the potential of third tier rights until I was able to see actual numbers. And these are not schools you think of when selling a brand. That is one reason I have held out hope for ND joining if the BCS takes away their path or makes it more difficult to reach the new system.

It's too bad our AD won't have the stones to do anything like leave as usual for him. No offense to those that have served, but he doesn't have a spine for a guy that has served. I can only hope Barron can finally grow a pair and override Spetman to leave for the Big 12

TAMU's and Missouri's ADs were also against the move from the Big 12, but they are gone now. Someone else pointed this out (and I agree), his comments about the budget shortcomings may have been the initial "hint" at looking at out options.
