EJ in FOX Sports Mock Draft

  • In a Fox Sports mock draft, they have EJ Manuel going 7th pick overall to Arizona. Thoughts....

  • Lunacy. They can get him 7th in 2nd round which would still be a tremendous moment for EJ. Though I think 7th in the third would be most likely. First round means you can delete that website from the "I should check their mock draft" list.

I wish upon wishes the 49ers would draft him end of the 2nd and then they could shed Alex Smith.

I know. Just wondered if anybody's thoughts were different from mine.

  • Everyone can bash EJ with how he performed at FSU and rightfully so but there is no denying his abilities. Given the right coach he can flourish and let loose. His faults may be a product of his surroundings. I will also add that if he runs a good 40 and flashes a big arm every scout in the NFL will look at his faults and believe they can mold him ino a successful pro.

So, your post was an attempt to draw the board's ire towards EJ? Good job.

Just the opposite. I wanted to hear people's take on the mock draft, good or bad. My opinion is that 7th overall is way too high. I like EJ as a person. Great guy but his inconsistency will plague his draft stock. In no way am I trying to draw any hate towards EJ. What's your take on it?

  • I think he would do great with chip Kelly.

  • EJ won’t go 7th overall, but a lot of posters are going to be shocked (and shamefully disappointed) if EJ is drafted within the top fifty picks. If CP7 and Tebow can go as high as they did, some GM is going to look at EJ’s athleticism, excellent character, and 4-0 bowl record and decide that it’s worth a shot. Whether it works out or not is another question.

Me thinks it’s becoming fashionable to bash EJ on these boards because it makes us feel better to think that FSU’s offensive problems are graduating.

  • Wow. I wouldn't use a pick that high on him. I like EJ and think he can do well in the right system (keeping it a little more simple) but 7th overall?

Deserve got nothing to do with it...

  • Insane. I used to blame EJ's problems on Jimbo not knowing how to use him properly. Over the course of the past 2 months I've done a complete 180. EJ made Jimbo look like an inadequate playcaller and a subpar QB coach. (Before you kill me, I STILL think Jimbo needs to hire a full-time playcaller because he's wearing too many darn hats.) Ponder is twice the QB EJ is. At least.

There is no fence sitting with EJ. Either you were a fan or you were frustrated. However, I feel that no matter which side you were on this ranking seems off target.

I believe the thought behind the thread was not to bring up the EJ debate as much as it was to discredit the ranking itself.

  • I DO like the idea of three 1st rd picks, though.

    Great post.

EJ can run, throw, and lead. He has all the tools, and he has a head on his shoulders. Plus, QBs are a premium in the NFL. There seem to be very few with sustained success.

I'm not sure what the laughter is about, but a QB of EJ's caliber and potential is valuable to GMs.

You're exactly right: there is no fence-sitting here. I remember coming back from the Orange Bowl delighted with his performance, only to find a number of posters saying he stunk the place up. It was like they were watching a completely different game.

  • Great for the program but would be possibly the worst draft pick I can remember (if he went that high)

My bad if that was not your intent. I am a little tired of the "EJ is the reason that FSU didn't achieve the ultimate goal" crowd. Fans of a team are the worst at evaluating one of their own, as every snap is overly scrutinized and infused with passion, rather than, objectivity. The fact that most only concentrate on their own team leaves so much room for error in judging what they truly have in relation to what other fan bases are forced to endure, week in and week out.

The NFL is a copy cat league. Too many judge the QB position with the Manning's and Brady's in mind. Just not so anymore. The Newton's, Wilson's, Griffin's, and Kaepernick's aren't going anywhere. I don't know where EJ will stack up against those mentioned, but I can see a team falling in love with grabbing a QB in that mold very early. All it takes is one.

  • Absurd...I'm not even going to check that ranking...I think everyone here would love to seem all the Noles taken in the 1st round but we aren't that naïve to believe that they are worthy; No way is EJ's past performance a 1st round worthy, let alone top 10

  • I am a big fan of EJ, but recognize he didn't have the kinda year we all hoped for.
I never can figure out the NFL draft. Players with little experience get picked over successful college players.
Players that struggle at times get picked really high if they are in a position of demand.
And players who are picked in late rounds many times are more successful than early round players despite the early round players be given more chances to succeed.
So could EJ go really high? Absolutely. Could he go mid rounds? Yes. Which is more likely? Have no clueconfused

How do you separate the two? To discredit the ranking requires an assessment of his play.

I hear you and I do not blame EJ for our shortcomings this year. Draft stock aside, my take on EJ is simply this: To me, it was just very frustrating watching a QB with infinite potential somehow manage to regress over the years when it should be just the opposite. Maybe he will land with a coach that will take his God given talent and develop it into something great. But that wasn't the case at Florida State. I'm not saying that it was his fault or for lack of effort but our coaching staff did not take advantage of the athlete they had in front of them. Because of this, I do not think that he will go 7th pick overall to the Arizona Cardinals, though I hope he does. I was addressing Peter Schrager's Mock Draft itself and not EJ Manuel the person. I am a fan of EJ Manuel.
