EJ Manuel at Senior Bowl

  • Jmnpb996 said...

Why do you think we didn't throw it over the middle much this year? Closest we got to throws over the middle were quick slants.

Thanks for the X&O's lesson, chief. I had no idea about that until you told me.

  • Day 2 twitter talk:

    Emory Hunt ‏@FBallGameplan
EJ Manuel already looks better since getting different coaching

    Sanjay Kirpalani ‏@skirp1
EJ Manuel looks a lot more settled today ... Showing some zip and accuracy on deep throws #SeniorBowl

    Benjamin Allbright ‏@NFLDraftMonster
Ej Manuel overthrowing the deep ball in 1v1 always bad sign,Usually means qb success hinged on track star wrs beating their man. #SeniorBowl

    Benjamin Allbright ‏@NFLDraftMonster
EJ Manuel throwing low for second day in a row. Has a shoulder drop that has become prominent. #SeniorBowl

    Reid Ferrin ‏@KCChiefs_Reid
South QB's time ..... FSU's EJ Manuel showing strong arm, accurate and tight spirals pic.twitter.com/SbKcdUDh

    NFL Philosophy ‏@NFLosophy
Why you don't trust practice over film: EJ Manuel looks really good so far. I know better.

    Eric Galko ‏@OptimumScouting
Maybe it's just me/seeing live, but EJ Manuel's release looks bit quicker, lower set. Should lead to fewer balls sailing, more time to setup

  • Today's twitter discussion on Manuel:

    Eric Galko ‏@OptimumScouting
In what I watched of him today, certainly intrigued by EJ Manuel's play this week. Gotten better, especially downfield. Not a total "project"

    Benjamin Allbright ‏@NFLDraftMonster
EJ Manuel has definitely improved/benefited from the coaching here. Much better showing today than Monday #SeniorBowl

    Tony Pauline ‏@TonyPauline
EJ Manuel/QB looking a little better today.

    Benjamin Allbright ‏@NFLDraftMonster
EJ Manuel with a nice sideline throw putting the ball right where it needed to be for King #SeniorBowl

    Justin Higdon ‏@afc2nfc
Robert Lester had coverage downfield on Q Patton but EJ Manuel threw a terrific pass and Patton separated at the last second to catch it

  • i think EJ will do better with some different coaching. its obvious he wasnt getting better but hes got the talent. sometimes you just need to do something a little different and it turns out better. change isnt necessarily a bad thing. ideally EJ goes to a team where he sits at least a whole year.

i remember colin kaepernick had similar issues when he was at the senior bowl. funky release, bad technique, inconsistent feet. its amazing what pro-level coaching and being a football player 365 days a year can do for you. everyone dogs EJ but i think if hes given the time and a good coach he can flourish

  • Have seen a few scouts thinking EJ could be first Qb taken. Talk of possibly being an Eagle..

  • This is just silly, I mean REALLY silly. There's 4 years of film on him, but in a couple of practices all will be forgotten? Jimbo IS a very good QB coach, he got that lazy slob Russell to play good enough to be the #1 pick, he got other average QB's to get drafted and play in the league. I highly doubt EJ suddenly is throwing GREAT for these pro coaches. A lot of players look great in practice, lets wait until the lights turn on.

Sounds like someone who will use every miss to justify their beliefs and discredit any good that the kid does. Kid played QB for your team and won some big games. Cant see how you can't just do your thing, get your money.

Jimbo isn't the only QB coach. Not everyone responds the same to certain teaching methods. As to Russell, if you compare his money year at LSU with EJ's, it might surprise you. Russell was drafted on sheer throwing talent. He wowed scouts with his arm strength. I'm not sure what Jimbo had to do with that, but whatever.

WRONG, that wasn't my point! My point was that all the scouts are saying is how well he looks with "proper" coaching, as if we didn't give him the coaching he needed. The other point that's considered "silly" is the talk that he might jump into the first round all of a sudden because of a could good practices. I REALLY wish him well and hope that he finds himself and becomes a great QB in the NFL..

Just to add something, whatever proficiency that Jimbo displayed in the past as just as QB coach or play caller is being diminished now because he spreads himself too thin. I think we may have seen better results from EJ if our "true" QB coach was able to focus just half of his attention and energy there. As an OC who also coaches the quarterbacks that can be done. As the head coach who has to monitor, question, analyze, and ultimately make the decisions that affect every facet of our team in practice and on game day, Jimbo has his hand in too many pots.

I imagine at practice he watches the qb's for a couple periods, then wanders over to check on how the line is progressing. From there he might watch the defense and add some thoughts on whatever he sees fit to. All of this while he has coaches in positions that he doesn't trust more than himself. I don't hold our qb's now to the same accord I do Ponder because they're not receiving the same level of coaching, IMO.

Well guys like Farrar and Cossell have a good track record of evaluating talent and They believe a good qb coach and this read option phenomena makes EJ a hot commodity

QB EJ Manuel, ex-Fl St, has had a strong week. Good decisions and accurate with the ball. Landry Jones, Ok improved during wk. #senior bowl

    Eliot Shorr-Parks ‏@EliotShorrParks
Don't forget the name EJ Manuel. Kelly recruited him out of HS, can be had late. Has rocket arm, size, mobile. A project, but interesting

    Christopher Hansen ‏@ChrisHansenNFL
If I'm drafting a QB in the middle rounds, EJ Manuel seems like the guy to target. If he's coachable, I like the tools.

    Shane P. Hallam ‏@ShanePHallam
EJ Manuel threw some beauties today in red zone drills. Ended the drill drawing raves from teammates on a fade to Terrence Williams

    Ryan Lownes ‏@ryanlownes
Most important thing EJ Manuel had to show this week, at least IMO, wasn't accuracy but steady improvement. Don't make same mistake twice.

    Ryan Lownes ‏@ryanlownes
EJ Manuel should not be put in a position where he'll be asked to start in the next year or two, but he has all the tools to work with.

    Ryan Lownes ‏@ryanlownes
Never been overly impressed by EJ Manuel myself, mainly because I love seeing consistency. That said, much better QB prospect than T. Pryor.

    Ryan Lownes ‏@ryanlownes
Interesting takes on EJ Manuel by @SC_DougFarrar + @MattWaldman - Film shows decision/accuracy flaws, but he may be seen as a blank canvas.

    Shane P. Hallam ‏@ShanePHallam
EJ Manuel running some read option in red zone drills

    BJ Kissel ‏@bkissel7
EJ Manuel with a good look to Michael Williams on a TD pass. Chase Thomas loses him in coverage.

    Bryan Perez ‏@FirstRoundGrade
EJ Manuel is in the mix for my top 5 qbs, as I believe his upside is higher than Dysert's. He just has a lot of work to do. #NFLDraft #qb

    Michael Tanier ‏@MikeTanier
I leave Mobile liking EJ Manuel a lot and Tyler Wilson a little. I don't get the fuss about Nassib #SeniorBowl
