if they don't allow visits and if he wanted to visit FSU, then he would just have to de-commit or have is spot pulled, sorry you can't force kids into things like that, it just isn't fair to the kid who has earned his right to take visits

Why commit? A kid commits to a school that he wants to go to. However, he also has a once-in-a-liftetime opportunity to take trips all over the country, get wined and dined, meet some girls, and simply confirm to himself that his original decision was correct one. I think the better question would be, "Why NOT take visits after you are committed?"

Why, to reserve a spot on a team he has a high level of initial interest in. Not letting them take visits is immature and chicken-crap. Some of these inner-city kids haven't even had the opportunity to get across their state line. Letting them take a look at other schools affords them the opportunity to interact with other people, and experience locales they have not heretofore had the opportunity to view.
Only a school that is afraid of the competition and a bit unsure of the strength their own paradigm, would pull a kid's offer if he took a visit(s). Those places have my contempt.
