Doak renovations

  • Per ESPN---

Florida State recently brought in a team of experts to do analysis of Doak Campbell Stadium and develop a plan to retrofit the bowl with an eye toward a more fan-friendly environment.

"It's very expensive," Spetman said, which means few large-scale overhauls are in the immediate offing.

Still, Spetman said the school is looking into renovatingthe south end zone of the stadium to add additional club seating in the nextyear or two -- improvements that could serve as a springboard to futurechanges.

"We're still a ways out on the analysis of that, andwhat we will do before we implement that is to presell the seats to make surewe have it sold and get our investment back," Spetman said. "I wouldsay in the next year or two years, you'll see that being moved forward."

In addition to that--- The BOT approved $32 million in renovations to Doak and the TLCCC last summer. Thoughts?

  • Glad they're willing to spend so much on my plastic surgery. I really need it.

    The Doak

  • We need to get rid of the bleachers and put chairs in. With HD TV bringing down attendance (along with the economy), it would bring a more comfortable experience and we don't need 85k seats when we only sell out for big games.

Less seats = less money even if only one to two games per year, never going to happen

  • The south endzone will have chairbacks, or "club seating" soon. TheBear said they were trying to find room in the budget for it this year, but with the IPF, dorms and other renovations going on, they may have to wait a year or two.

The demand for seats would rise and so would ticket sales.. Tennessee put in club seating a year or two ago and increased their ticket sales by $2 million. I don't think FSU will chair-back the entire stadium.

  • We really need to renovate the concessions areas. Add premium food selections and BEER!!! You want to increase revenue and get people to the games early? That's how you go about it. Additionally, I would love the whole stadium to have garnet seat backs and add a second tier of seats behind the student section (either above or below the scoreboard) to close out the bowl. See you in twenty years.

I believe this was looked at and may be in the works with the $32 million renovations that were just approved (painting and bathroom reno too). There are some decent selections now if you know where to go.

  • Damn only 32 million for renovations to the TLCC and Doak?!. The TLCC I guess is not going to gut it out like Ga.Tech did. Which is what I was hoping for.

I'm hearing that new scoreboard (3 mill or so) ribbon boards, and then pressure washing will happen. After that who knows. Seating as well is expected to change. But there are a lot of behind the scenes things that need to be changed before any cosmetic renovations. Trust me, if you knew about the way the clock and scoreboard were run, you would understand that getting done first. It's like 20 years behind.

  • They should have kids do pressure washing, I have to do a decent amount of volunteer hours for Honors and that isn't that bad.

Step one. We just bought the TLCCC, have the IPF going up, Doak reno, College Town and dorms going up. Tons of money being spent.

  • I would volunteer my time to pressure washing. Inallseiousness.

I wish they would reserve some of that mulla for an elite OC.

You would think, but I know for a fact pressure washing the entire inside and outside of Doak is A LOT of money. Well, maybe not considering a budget of $32,000,000...

  • I believe they are painting and doing some concourse work too.

  • So 32 million and another few for the IPF....we ain't leaving the ACC anytime soon. frustrated

  • In all honesty, I wish they would save some of that cash for coaching salaries. In the grand scheme of things, it's like an investment in FSU. Football is the cash cow and we need to be able to pay top coaching salaries. I'd sacrifice a few stadium upgrades for that.

The seats that actually will get taken out would be in the end zone, which right now is the "cheap" seat area. When they turn them into club seats, they will be able to get a premium, especially if there is access to the UCC.

I'm with Mac, though. I'd love to have an old fogie seat with a chairback. A BIG problem with the bleachers, aside from comfort, is that not everyone has the same sized ass. 2 years ago, my family was next to a large family and if we hadn't had aisle seats, we would have been crushed. Literally. With chairs, you have a defined area and generally have to stay in it.

Most all of these upgrades, dorms, IPF etc. Are funded separately from our $80 million operating budget.

IPF was privately funded, dorms were bonded, but also a cash cow, the chair backs will be pre-sold etc.

The upgrades will make this job even more desirable than it already is (11th best per one site).

I would not have been able to hold my tongue if a bunch wide butts made my game experience a pain in the ass. I would have found some way to mark my territory or seat so as not to lose what I paid for.

  • I remember they were going to repaint the stadium but that was delayed. I would think they would do it this year with the money the yhave set aside. I hope they finally pressure clean or refinish the brick surrounding the field, it is looking pretty bad these days.

  • Chris or Josh, can we get any official confirmation as to what the allocated improvment funds will be used for specifically?
