Do we deserve to?

  • Moving to the big 12 would make sense financially, but do we deserve to??? It's not like we're doing SO good in the ACC and it's the ACC holding us back (officiating is another story). Elite football programs win games/championships which gets them the big time tv contracts which rakes in the majority of the revenue. We were Elite in the 90's, but it's safe to say its been about 10 years since we could call ourselves that and our star doesn't shine as bright as it used to. I'd love to see those match ups with the big 12 teams but our best bet to go undefeated and win a national championship is to stay in the ACC. What do you guys think?twocents

  • So, wins and losses determines whether one deserves financial stability? Not trying to argue, just not sure how this Heather Dinich line of thinking is garnering ANY credibility among FSU fans. How long can FSU last in the ACC, in TODAY's CFB climate as everyone else gains an enormous financial advantage? What FSU did in the 90's or the last 10 years has no relevance to the situation at hand. This is simply about the money. JMHO

    HBCU93

  • The fact that so many keep latching onto what do we "deserve" is embarrassing. Iowa State is set to make more money than FSU from TV contracts. Do they DESERVE that over FSU? FSU needs to secure its financial stability going forward. Who gives a shit what we "deserve."

  • I agree, and don't get me wrong I'm all for going to the big 12. I'm just torn between playing in a more challenging conference for more money or staying in the ACC and having an easier rout to the national championship game which if happened would bring us more money also

  • FSU the program is a beast. Our team the last 10 years sucked because Bobby ran us into the ground. When he had the hottest coordinator opening in modern CFB to fill back in 2001 he hired his ball boy of a son. Then he hired crap assistants, then he wouldn't let Mickey retire when even Mickey knew it was time to go, then he kept Jody Allen around despite his ineptitude, and then he tried one last time to eff us by giving DC job to Amato and finally someone said enough is enough.

Bobby built us and then almost totally ruined us. He's gone now and Jimbo is building a beast. Is he the man to win us our next NC? I'm not sold to be honest but we are about to start owning the ACC again. So do we need to scale that mountain again to earn the right to move on to a new mountain? No. Let's get the F out.

Just saw this. You need to do more reading. If we stay in the ACC we aren't going to play for any more NCs. We'd have to go 13-0 to have a CHANCE to make the final four and the hurdles we'd have to clear to be 13-0 would get higher and higher every year as the budgetary deficit mounts.

  • Derserve? Seriously? how about colorado, 6-6 texas a&M. At least we bring a multitude more of viewers than ANY team that had changed its conference since 1992.

This is where you are not seeing the big picture. Sure the schedule would be easier, but it would be mandatory for us to go undefeated. Not to mention, we would lack money when compared to even the average SEC school. Do you think we would have coaches like Eddie Gran or Mark Stoops when the SEC can simply outbid us for any of them?

  • By this logic, ND should bring in less than we do in the ACC.

  • I read the title of this thread and just had to open it....and it was just as amusingly awful as I suspected.

  • I can see what the OP is tryin to convey and agree that the last 8-10 years have been nothin but frusturating in the sense that winning cures everything and we can't even win the ACC which is putrid and make it to a BCS bowl game which in turn has its $ incentives. All that is on FSU the program with that said the direction CFB is heading in we cannot remain on the outside lookin in and must thouroughly examine an offer to ensure the future stability of our program. Its obvious the ACC has an agenda and football is not part of it so we must bounce to stay relavent.

There is going to only be 4 major conferences with their champions playing for the BCS championship. The question is which of these will be the fourt ACC, Big East or the Big 12.

  • Is this a real argument? I did not read all the discussion but why should we be punished for Bowden's lack of success the last 10 years!?

    Such a foolish argument.

We deserve the opportunity to do what's best for FSU. Period.

  • I love how our football program isn't allowed to go through any downtime. People seem to forget the many long years Bama sucked. Or how about OU. Or USC? Plenty of great football programs have spans where they have a rough patch and we have 30 straight years of going to bowl games but you would think that we've had losing seasons 5 of the last 10 years. There's a simple explanation as to why we've struggled and it was a sticky situation that sucked for everyone. We had to respect what Bowden did for our program and gave him about 3-4 more years than we should have. That's what happens when your legendary coach doesn't know when to leave. We're still an elite program and other conferences realize this and that's why they want us. When you mention a school like Okie State...yeah people might remember they've had some success recently but most don't think of them as a great football program. There's a reason why we're still able to recruit kids even without the success we used to have a decade ago...because we're recognized as a great football program (and our coaches of course...and why do we have a great staff? because we're a great program).

  • For us to win a NC in the ACC we would have to go through the same crap Boise State went through. By that I mean go undefeated and still get questioned.

  • By this logic kids born into poverty dont deserve the chance to better themselves. Total load of crap!!

OK OP, does ND deserve its own network? They've been down for many years now.
Actually they do, they have a HUGE alumni and even fans that hate ND willk tune them in to see if they win or lose.
FSU by the same token has been and still is one of the most viewed CF teams in the country. Just look at the TV ratings. Our lesser Bowl games have been among the top rated. People like to watch FSU, FSU is still considered elite, recruits still flock to FSU. The bottom line for the BIG 12 is that FSU will expand their conference footprint and TV appeal greatly. FSU vs Texas, FSU vs OU, FSU vs WVU...the whole country will watch. I read one pundit call a potential FSU move the biggest one to date! Bigger than Nebraska, bigger than WVU, bigger than TAMU, bigger than any of these.
So, again why do you not think FSU is elite?

  • Viewership earns money, not necessarily success. FSU has high viewership. FSU does deserve money based on that.

    fsukum

  • No joke, the question in the OP is ridiculous. Did Southern Miss or East Carolina deserve to be jumped by Temple, UCF, SMU or San Diego State to the Big East? Did Mizzou truly warrant an invite to the SEC? Colorado to the Pac 12?

Passing up financial security is beyond stupid.

    tricknole

  • Hell, does the ACC deserve FSU? We have been DOWN the last decade and aside from Virginia Tech, who would you say was better than we were? Who in the ACC's existence has ever brought as much football credibility to the conference as we have?

    tricknole

  • Aggie guest reading your board.

Florida State is, and always has been, and always will be one of the biggest names in college football.

Apart from politics and the ridiculous current state of affairs where television footprint (and expansion of such) drive everything, FSU deserves to call its own destiny.

The Big12 blows apart from Texas and OU, and Texas is a handful. They're about 20 times UNC from a resources standpoint, so if you truly feel like you're being abused by the Tarheels, you better be careful what you wish for.

That said, the Big12 is also hands-down a better football conference than the ACC. I wouldn't blame FSU fans for heading there if the money is significantly better. You need to listen to your president and make sure it truly is better though, all costs considered.

Best of luck. Wish like hell you'd join the SEC.
