Did anybody here

  • know Lee Bowen, a former FSU broadcaster that passed away several years ago?

He grew up in Altoona PA, my hometown and he and my brother were really good friends when they were kids.

Pretty much every FSU baseball fan remembers him.

Was he a good broadcaster? He started out here in Altoona as a DJ when he was in high school. He was a huge Pittsburgh Pirate fan.

    He was beloved.

He was the voice of Seminole baseball for years, and the FSU baseball community was devastated to learn of his passing. The radio booth at Dick Howser stadium is named in his honor, and many of the local radio personalities either owe him their start or were heavily influenced by him.

As a broadcaster, he had a genuine, humble personality...not like some of these me me me yutzes you sometimes run across these days...and he was thoroughly knowledgable about the sport and the team he covered.

I'm not 100% certain, but I believe both of the men who now handle radio broadcasts of FSU baseball (Eric 'LuLu' Luallen and Tom Block) were influenced by Lee, and I believe he would be proud of the job they both do covering his Seminole Baseball club. I know LuLu posts here occasionally, and Tom probably lurks. Maybe they can chime in with some stories.

Tell your brother Lee turned out OK, and is missed.
