Dan Patrick said, EJ Manuel will be the #1 QB drafted

  • The scouts are drooling over his combo of size/speed, running/arm and the fact that he completed almost 70% of his passes in college, he said.

    GO NOLES! / SCALP EM!

  • Just made a thread about this, but Manuel's stock will only rise. He will impress everybody with his arm and speed. Big test will be the gruden qb camp. If he gets through that then he might be a top 10 pick.

If Tebow did well in the camp then EJ will crush it! The Arizona Cardinals are looking at him hard with their 1st round pick. I bet Fitzgerald is begging for them to draft him lol.

If EJ goes to the NFL and succeeds in any measure, Jimbo needs to be let go immediately.

I don't see any logical grey area in my mind...

EJ bombs in the NFL = jimbo has a chance to succeed.
EJ succeeds in the NFL = jimbo has zero chance. He took a senior QB, who was good enough to be #1 drafted qb, who went to the NFL and played good... with our team... and managed to make us look average in half the games we played.

It would indicate that after 3-years of HC experience, his individual coaching abilities & playcalling.... are just too low at this point to continue.

Honestly, I have more faith in Jimbo than I do in EJ. My gut tells me whoever takes him is wasting a draft pick, at any point during the NFL draft... 1st or 6th round

EJ's NFL success has little to do with Jimbo. There are far too many factors. Could end up on a good team with bad coaching. Could end up on a bad team with good coaching. Could have good skill players and a bad OL. Too many moving pieces.

EJ will be conceptually ready for the NFL. Well coached QB from a concept based passing game.

EJ's NFL success will have a lot more to do with if he can overcome his tendency to hesitate. The day it "clicks" he can be a star.

The dude knows ball and will impress in interviews/workouts/combine. Prototypical February/March riser.

100% agree. I'm excited to see if it will click for him one day, because he was a very good decision maker. He just was inconsistent at times. I would love to see him out here in Arizona next year. I'm not a Cardinals fan but I will get season tickets if hes named the starter.

I also think if EJ goes first round, that will make every top and I mean TOP QB recruit look FSUs way to learn from Jimbo. That would be 3 QBs in the first round for him. Remember when USC kept sending QBs to the NFL? I mean one of them didn't even start in college and now he's a starting QB in Kansas City. I think FSU can be/is that next Elite QB factory. Jimbo has proven that NFL execs love the way he coaches up QBs.

Yep great post. It's not nearly this cut and dried.

EJ has issues, it can't be denied. But like I've been saying since last summer it just takes one team to fall in love. The measureables are there. He's going to kill it in interviews. It just remains to be seen how he takes to pro coaching.

Dang son, that would mean Jimbo's last two QB's were first round draft picks.

Yep, he should be let go.

It would mean his offense took NFL level talent and completely failed to leverage them to their potential.

What's the benefit of retaining a coach that gets players to the NFL, but can't consistently leverage the talent within his offensive system? Especially when said coach is an offensive minded coach... with complete control.

I still put my money on EJ going being more in line with Jamarcus Russell type wasted pick. He's smarter, so he will stick around more... but he's not going to magically develop the ability to think quicker... when he's showed so little improvement in that field over 3 years of starting experience for FSU...Watch and see what his wonderlic score turns up... then lets have this discussion

2013 QB class: The 26-27-60 rule and other objective measures - Bleeding Green Nation

The 2013 QB class is certainly nowhere near the pedigree and hype of the 2012 class. Not only did that group come in with high expectations, they largely delivered with 3 rookie QBs leading their...

  • So if EJ does well in the NFL we should fire Jimbo, but what about Jamarcus Russell? Jimbo made him a #1 pick and he's a bust. Blame Jimbo for that too?

  • It would be GREAT for our program if EJ (most likely), Bjoern (a lock), Xavier (probable) and Menelik (a stretch) all go in the 1st round. Who knows what round Tank and Jenkins go, but this would be great for FSU.

Feel bad for Jenkins and Tank. Tank was a lock for a 1st rounder and Jenkins was a for sure 2nd rounder possible 1st

I hear ya. Jenkins should be ready for the combine, and may impress, but Tank is probably many months away. The good news is it's not at all uncommon for players to come back from either injury as strong and as quick as they were before. Regardless of where Tank gets drafted I think he has a great career. Jenkins too. The question with him is at what position, DE or OLB. They're both going to do well. And DHop is going to make some team very happy.

To be fair, EJ has had CRAP for an OL while at FSU. Last year our OL was TERRIBLE. This year they were inconsistent at best. When the OL played horrible, so did EJ (Vtech, 2nd half of NCstate, UF, 2nd half of Gtech, etc)

EJ aslo made the line look worse than they were every time and again. Run blocking is our biggest weakness every year.
