Cornerback Debate - 2013 class - Thoughts?

  • The best part about recruiting is the fact that nobody is perfect with their predictions and you can always make a case for liking a certain player over another. Opinions are huge in the recruiting game.

    You are the head coach at Florida State and you are looking to bring in 4 prospects at the cornerback position --

    Who would you sign from the list below? (focusing on current targets legitimate targets)

    Vernon Hargreaves - Wharton
    Mackensie Alexander - Immokalee
    Priest Willis - Marcos De Niza
    Artie Burns - Miami Northwestern
    Nick Washington - Trinity Christian Academy
    Michael Johnson - Booker T. Washington
    Sojourn Shelton - Plantation
    Rashard Robinson - Blanche Ely
    Will Likley - Glades Central
    Shaquill Griffin - Lakewood
    Troy McCollum - North Miami Senior
    Rashard Fant - Our Lady Of Mercy Catholic

    *** Did not add the following because I don't think they are truly considering FSU anymore
    Kendall Fuller - Good Counsel
    Maurice Smith - Dulles
    Noel Ellis - Edna Karr

    My top 4 would be:

    Vernon Hargreaves - Plain and simple - the top CB in the country and unlike most, he is ready to contribute day 1.
    Priest Willis - Love his versatility. A playmaker in the secondary.
    Mackensie Alexander - Super physical, raw corner. Major upside.
    Nick Washington - Terrific get by the Gators. Very smart player with great instincts. Very athletic and rangy.

  • I think the wildcard is Hargreaves. He wants to go where his dad is but also wants to play bigtime CFB so it's UF and USF right now.

    If we lose Stoops and Elliot in January Hudson becomes DC and most likely hires dad to coach DEs. All of a sudden FSU is the no brainer.

    I am hoping we keep Sojourn, land Artie sometime this summer or fall and then hold out till close to NSD to see what third guy we take but he needs to be at least 5'10 IYAM.

    I think Mackensie, my favorite CB in the class, goes to USF or Miami because they'll take Mackenro.

  • I want will Likely on this team just because. I dont care where we line him up at. He is just a winner, and a kid that will excel in college despite not having the NFL type of body. Best player in florida not named Tunsil in my opinion..

  • Hargreaves: best CB in the country, plays from day 1
    Shelton: great competitor w/ cover skills
    Robinson: great size/speed combo
    Burns: great speed and length

    I did not add Alexander because I doubt we get both him and Hargreaves.
    Also left off Likely because we should only take 1 undersized corner per cycle although I think he will be good.
    The thing I like best about my four are that 3 are from South Florida.
