As a Cane fan, and really slow time in college football news, I come in peace. Buster Davis was ridiculous. That dude played every play like it was his last. He was probably my favorite Nole of the last decade. Is he still playing football anywhere. I would take that dude in a heartbeat on my team.
Envy the past, Fear the future
Booker has averaged 76 yards from scrimmage the past three years.
I understand what people say about player development and coaching, but if a guy is good, he's good. Wimbley had Jody Allen coaching him, and still became what he did. We had plenty of other guys throughout that time that were highly acclaimed, but couldn't even get the NFL to sniff them. If you're cheap and talented, the NFL will take a flyer on you, stick you on the practice squad and see if something comes about. A lot of guys mentioned here, that never happened.
I have no idea. It's mind boggling.
Only Jeffy thought Booker should be a between the tackles runner.
When your oc is the worst in d1 you have no chance to be great.
Yea, that's it. Or, that he just wasn't that good.
Booker is averaging yards. In the NFL.
Chris Thompson (who seems like an awesome person and a great player for us) will not likely average any yards in the NFL. Freeman may, but we'll see. Wilder needs to get in line and stay in line, or he won't, either.
So, the point remains Booker may start on this team if he were a senior today. No one is making him out to be Gale Sayers (or even saying he was better than Washington--which he wasn't), but they are saying he could start this year and his talent was wasted (also like Washington, who could have put up Darren Sproles-like numbers in college).
They put him in space and he shredded the a very good UCLA defense in the bowl game. The only time there was a concerted effort to repeatedly get him in space.
He is a serviceable 3rd down NFL back & he would not start over exactly who right now?
He is better than Thompson-even uninjured Thompson is solid but Booker was better. Freeman is good but an argument can be made that Booker was better.
Wilder has shown NOTHING.
Pender-maybe-but he is a true Freshman.
As bad a Jeffy was, it was more than just him. awful ol's. terrible rb coaching. How many times did Greg Jones have to bounce it outside, turn into a dancing man or run backwards into holes for you to realize there was little rb coaching going on at that time?
Like I said in a previous post, objective observers said that was the worst offensive staff they had ever seen in d-1. You had to get kids to come play for FSU despite the oc, not because of him.
As bad as you think it was, it was much worse internally inside the program.
I worked for the program (03-07) at the time Booker was there but thanks anyway for educating me.

I still think Booker should have been in the slot. No telling what he would have done there. As others have stated and we all know he was not a between the tackles runner.
agreed, Booker wasn't used correctly...
Jeff wasn't creative at all with Booker, he should have been used how USC used Reggie Bush. Just line him up all over the field and create mismatches..
agree, Buster Davis was a beast to me..
Booker would start today at FSU. And like many former players if they were coached by this staff would have had much better careers. He's an NFL Player. Not saying he was all-world but any player that plays in the NFL is apart of a group that is less that 1%.
Why are we again making Reggie Bush comparisons? I guess all of his offensive coordinators in the NFL have sucked as well, because they, too, have failed to use him like Reggie Bush.
And Reggie Bush runs between the tackles. There is no such thing as a running back who is worth a damn that can't run between the tackles. You don't have to bowl people over, but not everything can be outside.
No one said he was Reggie Bush (who couldn't run between the tackles worth a damn until this year, anyway). They said he could have been used like Reggie Bush. Also, it is entirely irrelevant how NFL coordinators use him (which is like Reggie Bush, btw), because no one is saying he should start in the NFL. We are talking about starting this year at FSU, where it is unclear whether there is an NFL prospect at tailback.
You need to read what I said again...I said he should have been used like how Reggie Bush was used at USC. Norm Chow lined Reggie Bush all up over the field to get him the ball in space where he did a lot of his damage.
Reggie wasn't worth a damn up until this season because he couldn't run between the tackles. Things that you did college doesn't translate to the NFL. Reggie learned that he couldn't bounce every thing outside. And we are talking about COLLEGE not the NFL..
All but a couple ol and the weed would be in the 2 deep. Bunk and McFadden would start over anyone.
Start yes, beast
